    GPR rear sight?

I contacted Lyman and they are sending me a new rear sight for free. The guy I spoke to said that the dovetail on the barrel became bigger when the original adjustable sight was installed at the factory. Whether that is the case or not I guess I will see if the new sight works.

    GPR rear sight?

I wanted to replace the rear sight on my GPR with the more traditional fixed sight. I tried replacing the sight that comes installed on the rifle with the second fixed sight Lyman also provides. The sight slid right out of the dovetail, barely touched it. Has anyone else had this problem...

    Percussion Rifles Beginning?

I read that the percussion cap was introduced circa 1830. When did the use of percussion rifles become common?

    Colonial New Jersey gun builders?

I am trying to research any gun builders that may have been around the New Jersey area during the colonial period. Anyone that may have information where I can get some information I would appreciate it.

    Bulge in Barrel?

I have read several posts in the past about this as well as read it in books, but how can you determine if there is a bulge in your barrel? Can you see it on the outside of the barrel? Could you see it in the bore with a light and what would it look like?

    Sighting in my GPR?

Today I got to take the new GPR to the range. I put 15 rounds through it. I only shot at 25 yards just to see what it would do. 70 grains of 2F, .018 Ox-Yoke patch with wonder lube and a .530 Hornady round ball. I did not do anything to adjust the sights, again I just wanted to see what the...

    Sighting in my GPR?

Thanks for the advice. I noticed already prior to shooting the gun that the rear sight tends to move alot as far as windage is concerned.

    Sighting in my GPR?

My question to you guys out there familiar with the GPR, should I wait until the bore gets worn in first before I play with the sights? I know from what others have said that the rifling could cut my patches in the beginning.

    Don't Fit my TC Hawken

I agree, I just bought a GPR and it fits me like a glove. No adjusting or anything needed. It shoulders perfectly.

    Don't Fit my TC Hawken

I appreciate the advice, but it is not how I mount the rifle. I just needed more drop in the stock. If I mounted the rifle as you stated I believe my bicep would have taken a significant beating. I really have to jam my cheek into the stock, if the gun was properly fitted for me I would be...

    Powder Quality?

That is great information, as you stated I do not shoot competatively, just hunting. Correct me if I am wrong, from what you said about the granule size being smaller for swiss could you argue that you could use 3f Goex and maybe get somewhat same results based on its smaller granule size and...

    Powder Quality?

Is there a difference in quality between Goex or Swiss brands. For example I was told that 60 grains of 2F Swiss is just as good as using 80 grains of 2F Goex. I have never used Swiss, only Goex. Just wanted to know what everyones thoughts are.

    So Who REALLY Loves BP?

For the past three years I have been using BP during all firearms seasons here in NJ. This year my goal is to harvest a deer with my new Lyman GPR .54 cal.

    New Lyman GPR?

Thanks for all the advice. I had some WD40, and like you guys said, it took alot of cotton patches to clean it. It did come out though to a completely white cotton patch when it was done. I then used hot water with dawn dish soap and clean it that way after I was done. I dried the barrel and...

    New Lyman GPR?

Just bought a Lyman GPR. My question is after reading the manual it says to clean the bore with either WD-40 or Hoppe's because of the oil they put on it to preserve it. Anyone have any experience with this or suggestions?

    Don't Fit my TC Hawken

I wound up taking a ride to Dixon's Shop out in PA and bought a .54 GPR. Gun fits like a glove. Possibly going to shoot it today.
