    Going to follow this as I have not yet browned the lock plate on my Kibler Colonial yet, I think I will brown just the plate and leave the rest bright. Plus browning only requires hot water so no risk of heat damage but am a novice with this so anxious to see your outcome. Good luck!

    The browning of the barrel came out reasonably well and I want it to look old so am really delaying as I have never taken a lock down to its parts and have been getting all the tools and researching as much as possible. Here is the barrel just before I oiled it but after it got its baking soda...
