Pietta 1851 Navy .44 cal. Questions

I was hoping that somebody might know of an aftermarket upgrade sight that would fit.

Pietta 1851 Navy .44 cal. Questions

I would like to put a more user friendly front site on my pistol. Does anyone know of a front site that would be fairly easy to install without having to make one from scratch? Didn't know if there were any aftermarket sights available.

Pietta 1851 Navy .44 cal. Questions

Thanks for the safety suggestion. I only load from the flask to a cold cylinder. Wouldn't want a spark left.

Just Dropped the Hammer on a Pietta Model 1858 New Army Stainless

Well, I love the looks of the brass on the Confederate, but I also love the SS on the Remmy. I like the ease of clean up on the stainless and the easier to change cylinder, soooo I guess the edge goes to the Remington New Army. I'm getting ready to make a holster for each one and I think a 3"...

Just Dropped the Hammer on a Pietta Model 1858 New Army Stainless

Thanks for the reply. I never heard of using cornmeal, however, bringing the ball closer to the barrel makes sense. I keep reading about the possibility of chain fires and I really have a hard time believing that with a properly fitted and seated round ball, that you could get fire in from...

    Remington capper

I'm glad you posted this thread. I just bought two inline cappers. One from Track of the Wolf and one that's a Thompson Center brand. Neither one works very well with either the Pietta 1851 Confederate .44 or the Pietta 1858 Remmy .44. To me, it seems to be more the cappers than the guns...

Just Dropped the Hammer on a Pietta Model 1858 New Army Stainless

I got the 1858 yesterday. I unpacked it and cleaned it good to get it ready to shoot. The cylinder release pin was really hard to pull out. It seemed that the finish on this stainless model was a little rougher than the 1851 Confederate I recently purchased. Went out to the pasture/shooting...

Just Dropped the Hammer on a Pietta Model 1858 New Army Stainless

Nice job. How is the brass sight mounted? Is it just a small round hole like the '51? Just wondering about modifying my '51.

Just Dropped the Hammer on a Pietta Model 1858 New Army Stainless

One thing I forgot to mention. I had a hard time finding the little brass front post site. It was hard to get it lined up in the rear. I think it will be pretty accurate with little site work if I can get a good consistant sight picture. Any suggestions for improving the front sight? Paint...

Just Dropped the Hammer on a Pietta Model 1858 New Army Stainless

You're exactly right. Guess I was thinking drugs or something! BTW, I used #10 Remington caps and they fit the stock nipples just fine. Much better than the Winchester #11's. I have the old West pattern collection by Will Ghormley. Just got the patterns out and started figuring out...

Just Dropped the Hammer on a Pietta Model 1858 New Army Stainless

Man, I had a blast shooting the 1851 today. Used the OEM Pietta nipples with zero misfires. I used both cylinders and shot 12 rounds in each one. Everything loaded and shot great. Only used 20 grams of Pyrodex. Hardly no recoil. I actually forgot my earplugs in my excitement to shoot it and...

Just Dropped the Hammer on a Pietta Model 1858 New Army Stainless

I'm really surprised to hear that a different cylinder would make a difference in accuracy. I'm anxious to see how mine patterns. I picked up some Remington #10 caps this weekend and plan on going out and shooting some today. I don't have the new nipples, so I'll see how the Pietta nipples...

Just Dropped the Hammer on a Pietta Model 1858 New Army Stainless

Well, when the new one gets here, I'll have both too! I can't wait. I try not to let off the wall comments on a forum bother me. I took it that the comment about the "Hot Rod" stainless B&C was just good hearted humor. If not, I'm not trying to please anyone but myself...

Just Dropped the Hammer on a Pietta Model 1858 New Army Stainless

Thanks for all of the comments and suggestions. I do leatherwork so I plan on a new/old looking holster with a cylinder pouch to keep the cylinder safe and sound. As for the caddy, yeah I guess you're right, but I have other black powder guns and know how hard clean up can be. I figured...

Pietta 1851 Navy .44 cal. Questions

I've still got some FF that I used on my rifle. I bought a flask that came with a 24 spout and I ordered a 20 also. If I keep the powder charge light, I should be OK. Just made a post on getting a new 1858. I won't have to worry about the powder charge on it!....but what about the nipples...

Just Dropped the Hammer on a Pietta Model 1858 New Army Stainless

Well, I guess I've been bitten by the C&B Revolver bug! Just ordered a new Pietta Model 1858 New Army Stainless .44 Caliber Target Revolver from Cabella's. https://www.cabelas.com/product/Pietta-Model-1858-New-Army-Stainless-44-Caliber-Target-Revolver/705740.uts...

Pietta 1851 Navy .44 cal. Questions

You know, the first time I read your post, it sounded good but I couldn't quite visualize what you were describing. After re-reading a couple of times...I'm riding with you! Sounds like the best permanent answer. Well, I already ordered one of those from the Track of the Wolf. Hope it...

Pietta 1851 Navy .44 cal. Questions

[/url] Thanks for the thread link and the PDF file. With the two of them, I should be good to go! Looks like Pietta would give you more in the owner's manual to answer these basic questions. All of this is very basic to those that have been shooting C&B revolvers, but to a novice like me, I...
