    Gold band

Hey all, I’d like to add a gold band to the barrel of my current build. My plan is to mill out a tiny groove around the barrel then undercut it with a chisel. Should I add the gold before or after blueing? I don’t think the acid in the bluing would hurt the gold, but it may etch it a bit...

How thin can Intake a horn?

I’m out in the reload shed today, working on my first scratch built powder horn. This particular horn in a nice light color and will eventually get scrimshawed. How thin can I safely scrape a horn before I have to worry about it being easily broken?

    Ramrod tips

Guys, I have everything laid out to make a few ramrods. I plan on using epoxy and pins. I’ve made them before and while perfectly function-able, the tip to rod fit wasn’t as best as they could be. How do you build your ramrods?

Siler lock fires from half cock

Thank you Zonie and ec121. I took a bit off of the top of the trigger blade then noticed the lock had a little bit of cant when I run the screw down. I took a tiny slice of wood out where the sear bar meets the stock. It all went back together perfectly and now functions as described...

Siler lock fires from half cock

Hi all, My dads 81 year old best friend recently built a Southern Mountain styled rifle for me. He did this while recovering from open heart surgery to replace a valve and then having a stroke. Due to his condition, the fit and finish aren’t what they could have been. I don’t care...

    Horn disk

My apologies for taking so long to get back to you guys. Thanks for all your responses. I was researching powder horn stuff and ran across the disks. I'm actually thinking about using the horn as an inlay on an 1970s-1980s home built kit rifle that I picked up for cheap. The stock is...

    Horn disk

I was researching making my own powder horn a few days ago and ran across a vendor that had horn disks about an inch to 1 ½ inches in diameter and about 3/16 thick or so. For the life of me, I can't find them now. Does anyone have a clue where I can find these?
