    Round Ball Trajectory

My experience with a 54 prb using 90 gr 3F is when zeroed for 50 yds, the balls land 3.5" lower at 100 yds.

    TC Renegade stock refinish

Thanks for the feedback. Can you recommend a product to strip this finish?

    TC Renegade stock refinish

When I shoulder this rifle my cheek hits the stock and my eye position is too high to align the sights. I want to remove enough stock wood to get my eye in the right place. After removing the wood I want the repair area to match the rest of the stock. I don't know what the TC finish is and...

    New rifle ?

Ditto. My GPR is great. Never liked Cabelas stuff because they have their name on the gun in very big letters. UGLY

    Removing Dry Ball?

The CO2 unloader is a great tool since you can use it in the front yard without disturbing the neighbors. A note of caution: I just replaced my unloader with a new one from Cabelas. The new one uses 16 gram CO2 bottles and I had a lot of the old ones which were 12 grams. The 12 gm are too...

    ML hunting cold weather

When a cold gun is brought into a warm room, water immediately starts to condense on the gun. If cold enough you can get ice. This condensate will also form inside the bore which is bad. I cover the muzzle with a condum I bought from TotW, I think, and cover the nipple with a piece of...

Green Mountain .58 drop in barrels

I decided a 1:48 twist would not be too bad based on postings above. Sooo...I called Fox Ridge and the young lady there said a 58 for my Renegade without QLA would cost $175 and only take 4 to 5 months since the no-QLA was a special order. I declined for now. Got to rethink the QLA. Any...

    First shoot patch diagnosis

I would think used clothing will likely vary in thickness since my old denim jeans are considerably thinner on the rear than below the knee. Since patch thickness is an important variable I would opt for spending a few extra bucks for WalMart ticking to get patches that are a constant...

Green Mountain .58 drop in barrels

I have had one on order through Midway since 12/08. Midway has now moved the posted date for shipping to 10/30/09. Big deal. This is getting old so I called Green Mountain and asked where the 58s were in the production schedule. The young lady who answered the call put me on hold and went to...

    Lyman Trade Rifle Accuracy??

I got a huge change in group size by firelapping my .50 Investarms. It went from 3" to 1.5" groups after firing only ten lapping rounds. I used the bullets (.501 dia) and lapping compound from Bear Tooth Bullets. Follow the directions and it will work. As a work of advice, I also bought...

    First shoot patch diagnosis

If you use over-powder wads and don't get cutting, then your barrel is probably ok and the patch is not getting damaged during the loading process. That leaves the patch, ball & powder charge combination to work on.

    drop in barrels

Green Mountain website shows various 32, 40 and 54 cal barrels in stock. Other barrels don't seem to be in production. I have had a 58 barrel on order from Midway since Dec. 2008.

    Caps falling off nipple

I had this problem with a GPR. I changed the nipple and the problem went away.

    First shoot patch diagnosis

Buy a pack of over powder wads, shoot them all and then try again without them. Shooting tends to smooth out the barrel surface. If the first patch used with the OPW does not have holes, then your rifling is not cutting it and you don't need to fix it. I have never had a torn patch when I...

    frozen nipple

If the end of the clean out screw hangs out into the flame space the end of it is probably coated with crud which prevents unscrewing. Try turning it in first, then back out. The in/out repetition will work the crud off and make it easier to remove. If the cleanout screw is tight against the...

    Touch Hole Pick

I agree. I pick my RMC because it has the nipple in the side of the barrel and the flame goes directly to the powder. I believe this procedure is very helpful with this rifle. However it seems my GPR has a patient breech so picking probably won't touch the powder because of all the angles in...

    lead flint wraps

What kind of problems are caused by a lead flint wrap but not by leather? I like lead because I can now throw the whole lock into the soapy water when I clean it. When I had a leather wrap I felt I needed to remove the leather so it did not get wet. The lead wrap has made cleanup easier for...

Protecting the inside of a lock

I clean my lock after each range session by washing it in hot soapy water which will remove all the lubricant. I dry with hot air or hose it down with WD-40. Most important to me, to keep the action from slowing down I take the frizzen off to clean and relube the frizzen screw area. I finish...

Looking for a GM .58 Barrel

Sorry to hear GM does not have 58s in their schedule yet. I looked at the same options in Feb and I did not order the TC barrel because as I recall it has a 1:48 twist. I am sure you will have the TC in 14 weeks.

Looking for a GM .58 Barrel

I have had a GM 58 barrel on order from Midway since Dec 2008. The date Midway lists as the date they expect the barrel in stock is a moving target. It seems to be revised weekly and always stays a week or so ahead. I have been watching it since 2008. I am glad to see an estimate from Green...
