    Pedersoli Kentuckey sight picture

Don't know if anyone is still following this thread, but a change of patch lube fixed the problem. Don't remember what I used first. When those patches ran out I switched to olive oil. Italian rifle likes olive oil. Shoots elevation right on the sites but 6 inches to the right. Easy fix...

    BRUSHING

Aren't green scrubbies harsher than steel wool? Better Half took the dark finish off my pet cast iron frypan with one. Steel wool (seldom used) didn't. Works well on my shotgun too. Since it fits-all, I've thought of it for the rifles, but been too chicken. Steel on steel should polish?

    Pedersoli Kentuckey sight picture

Thank you all very much. I need to file or replace the front sight as it is way too tall. Mostly I shoot targets but hunting occurs sometimes as well. This gun is my bp replacement for a 22 we don't talk about here. 25 yds is what I plan on, but I should try 50 yards and see if there is much...

Maybe I should add that I can almost see the top flat on the barrel when lined up.

    Pedersoli Kentuckey sight picture

Wish I could draw. I'm not clear enough, I guess. Post lined up in the little v is what I should see. I see the post waaay high. Need to take almost all of the post off to get this. Is this normal? A shotgun bead would be about right. Maybe adjustable sights? Just wondering if there was...

    Pedersoli Kentuckey sight picture

I have a 32 cal Pedersoli Kentuckey flintlock. Lots of fun. Likes 30 grains 3f behind PRB. Also has Pedersoli's sights. These consist of a tall front post and a "v" rear. The rear site picture is of a very shallow trough (1 /16 in. Deep) with a sharp "v" in the middle. If I put the post in...

    Taking a Blacksmithing class

Coal forge can get much hotter than gas. Gas won't burn delicate work as readily, though. I use a wheel drum forge. Not elegant nor as deep, but quite effective. Btuminous or soft coal is best. The hard, shiney anthracite used in furnaces is hard to keep burning and is apt to burn your...

    Help with my lady woes

Perhaps I shouldn't say anything, but.... my Better Half fishes, puts her own worm on, takes fish off the hook and sometimes runs the boat. Shoots percussion but not 'flinchlock' (but is thinking about it). She outfises and outshoots me. I think it's great! Always have someone to go with...

    Grouse loads for 12 ga

Played with that a bit too. Mort seems to like 3 powder to 4 shot, but I need to do more shooting. Darn...... This is so much more fun than unmentionables.

    Grouse loads for 12 ga

My repro Mortimer is cylinder bore. No choke. I've played around a bit and found, as I'm sure you all know, wads make quite adifference in the pattern. One nitro card onlt under shot plus a thin overshot wad spreads some shot out 10 feet at 25 yards, at least. Hit an ornamental windmill...

    Grouse loads for 12 ga

Thanks to all for your ideas. Back to the patterning board to see what Mort likes.

    Grouse loads for 12 ga

Interesting. I would have thought that describes between improved cylinder and modified. Live and learn. Thanks.

    Grouse loads for 12 ga

I quite like my Mortmer. Seems well made. I would have prefered a bit more weight, perhaps, but is certainly easy to cary. Not fond of the "browning" on the barrel. Seems to be some sort of paint or coating, and is starting to come off around the vent. 1F and 2F work well, ith the nod going...

    Grouse loads for 12 ga

Bit confusing on re-read. It's about half way between modified and full. A tight modified, if you prefer, Sir.

    Grouse loads for 12 ga

Thanks for your sugestion. I tried to duplicate my favorite 410 load last year and found it lacking. Would knock birds down, with a few "flutterers". Like my game to drop dead. I'm going to try Feltwad's sugestion of 1 1/8 oz - my old trap load. I also like grouse. Nice walk on a fall day...

    Grouse loads for 12 ga

Greetings Gentlemen. I have a Pedersoli Mortimer fouling piece and could use some advice on loads to use. About 4 years ago my group stopped chasing moose (they are smarter than we are) and started after Grouse. Although my 20 ga unmentioable with an improved cylinder bore did a good job, it's...
