    Sharpe's Rifles

Baker rifle chambered in .62. Here's mind at the range.

    time machine

I have to admit that they had it harder back then. Do you realize that most people born in the 1940's have passed on? And that even more from the 1920's are no longer alive? And don't even get me started on the 19th century pioneers. All dead now. Life was definitely tougher.

Nowadays, my PBR is about this range.

What is your method to combat offhand wobble?

That's how I did with the heavier rifles as well. Seems to lock the arm/torso into a stable A.

Montana muzzleloading season, blaze orange, camouflage

In Florida it's becoming increasingly dangerous to wear orange while hunting. Next thing you know...you're sorted.

Rocks are more reliable than caps

Sorry billraby, but I'm going to have to disagree here. I refer you to this discussion back in 2004. https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/when-did-percussion-replace-flint.1419/ The British switched late in the Napoleonic wars because of ease of use and also because it functioned better...

Poachers Of The Georgian Period Beware

Many years ago I was an ROTC cadet at Fort Benning, Georgia. We were doing infantry maneuvers, which involved a squad of 9 with M16's and two cadets with M60 machine guns. We used blanks but at night the flames came out of the barrel for about a foot. One night we were practicing ambushes in...

    Spilling powder

More of a safety issue and a courtesy to the others at the range, who don't need to be stepping on black powder.

    Spilling powder

I like the powder measure you show and will order one. I never pour directly from the horn. The problem I have is the horn I use has a choke point near the nozzle so you can't slowly tap it out. It does have a built in powder cap, but it's the same diameter as the horn...so the same problem...

    Spilling powder

As I learn how to shoot, I'm finding I'm wasting powder. Going from the Powder horn to a brass powder measure the openings are different and sure enough, even with care, some powder goes on the ground. I've ordered a brass funnel to help. Is there a replacement for the Powder horn, like a...

    Getting used to Baker Rifle

About a year to get the kit, and another year for the gunsmith to assemble it. It is .62 cal.
  13. M

Anyone know where I can get a .62 cal rifle built ?

I bought a .62 caliber Baker Rifle kit from the Rifle Shoppe, and am very happy with it.

    Getting used to Baker Rifle

Went to the range for a 2nd time. Fired at 25 meters with 65 grains 3F with a .595 ball and .10 lubed patch. Patch really made a difference in accuracy. 5 shot pattern. I will continue to experiment with powder, ball and patches (and still getting used to the delay in firing.) The funny...

Stuck ball in a Thompson Center Hawken flint

I admit, I bought a CO2 for my Baker Rifle and sure enough, the first time out I put a ball down (no patch) to see how it seated it rolled right in (no powder in yet) and I couldn't get the ball out with 3 cartridge's of compressed air. Ball rolled in well enough, but maybe rifling has an...

After two years finally got to shoot my Baker Rifle

The Rifle Shoppe does the rifled version. But they no longer assemble so I had an experienced gunsmith build it for me.
