    Barrel to stock attachment

Yup, got it drilled all the way through and got longer pins. Seems more practical now. Thanks for the tips, Ken

    Barrel to stock attachment

Hello, The rifle I recently purchased appears to have been a homebuilt. Forward of the lock, there are three pins that secure the barrel to the stock. These pins are "blind", and only go in one direction. In order to remove the barrel, I must push the pins all the way in to the stock, remove the...

Traditional Hunters in Michigan, it's our time...

16gauge... I can understand you point. However, I hate to see the state revoke privilages or add restrictions to an existing season. Adding a new traditional season would be a good idea in my opinion, but I wouldn't want to see the existing season modified since this would make things difficult...

    Parts fitting issue

It seems to be tight when installed and lines up correctly but I do get some marks on the barrel from a little leakage during shooting. Perhaps I'll try some threadlocker. Do you think I would want to use red or blue Lock-tite? Thanks for all the help.

    Parts fitting issue

Yeah, I've been removing it. It came off very easily when I bought the rifle. Hasn't been that long. Didn't know any better. I'll stop now.

Traditional Hunters in Michigan, it's our time...

I purchased my first muzzleloader just for deer hunting. I bought a CVA Hunterbolt 209 for two reasons. First, I liked the extra hunting season this afforded me. Second, I hunt in shotgun only territory in southern Michigan. Getting the CVA rifle got me something more accurate than the shotguns...

    Parts fitting issue

Oh, I understand. Should I grease it the last time I install it or leave the threads bare? Thanks for the input.

    Parts fitting issue

Ahh yes it's a drum, I guess I got my terms wrong. So, you're saying their's no real reason to need to unscrew the drum from the barrel while in the stock? Thanks, Ken

    Parts fitting issue

Hello, I'm having an issue with the percussion rifle I recently purchased. The bolster does not have enough clearance from the lock plate to easily thread in and out. My question is would it be ok to file down some of the side plate to allow for more clearance, or is there an issue of one part...

Whitetail load suggestions for .45 cal?

Thanks for the input. Pyrodex is easier to come by around here than real black powder. I'll try and load 65 gr of Pyrodex RS and see what happens. What difference could I expect if I use the "P" stuff? I appreciate the help I don't know much about black powder. --Ken

Whitetail load suggestions for .45 cal?

I recently purchased a .45 cal percussion cap rifle with a 28" barrel. I've had good results on the target range with a patched round ball and 50 grains for Pyrodex RS (FFg equivelent?). Anyways, my plan is to try this rifle for deer hunting in Michigan this fall. What loads would you guys...

    Kentucky Rifle Questions

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. Yes, it's a percussion model; I got some CCI #11 caps. The nipple and bolster threaded out easily and both look good. The bore does not appear to be rusty or pitted. I ran a patch down it on a jag and it went smoothly and didn't pick up fouling. I...

    Kentucky Rifle Questions

Hello, I'm new to this forum so please let me introduce myself. My name is Ken and I live in Michigan. Up until today I mostly dabbled with curio and relic firearms and didn't do any black powder stuff except for a CVA hunting rifle. At a pawn shop today I picked up a .45 caliber percussion...
