    Coyote Problem

I hate to say it but the most effective method of coyote control is trapping. This is especially true when you use a well thought out snaring plan. The problem is that some people get their undies in a bunch when you mention the words trap or snare.

3 1/2 months until squirrel season

Our gray squirrel season starts the first of September in Connecticut. Red squirrels are open year round.

I arose to the sound of static

You know. I did not even feel the gun recoil when I had the bead on that bird's head.

    Jr size Georgia Swamp Rhino

To the best of my knowledge, giardia is spread through the feces of beaver. So I guess the water was beaver free.

    spring bears?

Here in New England the only option is to hunt on one of the Indian reservations in Maine using one of their licensed guides. The state of Maine eliminated the spring bear season around 1980 or so. But since the Indian tribes have sovereign rights over their lands they can establish their own rules.

I arose to the sound of static

Many people like to just breast out the bird. To me it took too much to hunt them down so I use as much as I can. I took the neck, back and drumsticks and put them in a roasting pan. I roasted the meat and then cleaned it off the bones. So I have a pan of nicely cooked dark meat. My wife hates...

    Woods walk

Excellent shooting. It is still spring wild turkey season here in the northeast. Small game such as the gray squirrel will not open up until September and rabbit doesn't open until mid October. I noticed you're wearing a jacket. It must be chilly. Last Wednesday when I went turkey hunting it...

    Jr size Georgia Swamp Rhino

Good shooting. I checked the weather map on Weather Underground for your region. I think I would roast.

    Late season gobbler

That is a nice bird. They are hard to hunt when the season progresses.

I arose to the sound of static

My clock radio is set for the local country station but a power outage reset the tuner back to zero, so to speak.

I arose to the sound of static

This is my second traditional muzzleloading gobbler so far. Ever since I had taken one about three years back I have been hooked on muzzleloading for turkey. It is a ton of fun. I hate to see manufacturers come out with some new fangled " you can kill them at 50+ yards" etc. I believe it will...

I arose to the sound of static

in the wee hours of the morning. As with many things the early bird catches the worm or in this case the turkey hunter catches the bird. I downed some isotonix vitamin powder and a power bar for breakfast. Grabbed my large satchel which contains all of my hunting clothes and equipment. The arm...

    Flintlock goat

Great shooting. In a way I wished we had feral goats in the northeast.

    Moose Permits

Dad and I put in each year for Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire. This year I can put in for NH as I got a permit in 2011. There is a three year wait after that. I have been very lucky with NH as I have had three permits drawn since 2004. I know for Maine I have a ton of preference points. I...

    Ct turkey opener

Excellent take. I have been hunting turkey in the opposite side of the state since Wednesday. No luck so far. Each morning has been at or below freezing so I don't think they are really in the mating mood.

    Another day hunting turkey...

Today I arose at 355 AM to the tune of some country artist. I grabbed a bite and two cups of coffee to revive my senses. Donned my permethryn infused clothes and I was headed to my spot. When I arrived it was somewhat light out. I heard three gobblers to the southeast of my truck...

    Wild Brahman Cattle

Excellent hunt report. It must be wonderful to hunt such a variety of species. I just got back from a trip to Florida which included a hog hunt albeit with a modern handgun and not a muzzleloader. I asked the rancher-guide about wild cattle. He said they are found on some of the very big...

    RI hunting regulations

The tough part is obtaining permission on private land in the Ocean State. Most of the deer in Rhode Island are shot on private land. I want to say that the success rate for muzzleloading in RI is close to 30 percent or better. Bear in mind most of New England has a success rate in the 10 to...

    muzzleloading only hunting guides

When you say Southeast I assume the South Eastern US such as North and South Carolina, Georgia and maybe even Florida. I don't believe you will find a BP only guide but you could find someone who is knowledgeable in the needs of a traditional BP hunter. A good guide who is will not put you on a...

    Skychief's gobbler

Beautiful bird. I'll be out Wednesday for the Ocean State opener. Taking the nephew out.
