    Massachusetts Deer Season

As a Massachusetts resident who has in the past, yes it is. The issue of using a muzzleloader during the regular shotgun season was codified back in the 90's.

    Another old army ?

I have been using a product called Gunzilla. It is supposed to be all natural and for some strange reason almost smells like there is a hint of tobacco. It works very well for me and protects the gun.

    Ct. Deer Hunters,Please Read..

Now that I think about it, I would like to see it pass. I don't think a week of traditional muzzlelaoding would have a big impact on the deer herd. But as said, the bowhunters believe it will encroach on their time. We can't afford to think like this in this day and age. All of us hunters need...

    Florida Turkey

I suspect you can use a muzzleloading shotgun. I know the regulations here in New England mandate the use of a bow or shotgun but muzzleloading shotguns are in that catagory.

Opinions on the best MZ hunt in the lower 48?

Don't laugh but I have thought of a Wyoming pronghorn hunt. Back in 1993 I went on my first guided Western hunt. It was for New Mexico pronghorn antelope. I chose that state because at the time I was teaching and the three day season was still in my summer vacation schedule. I shot a nice...

Opinions on the best MZ hunt in the lower 48?

I've been to Tennessee before. A number of times while traveling to Texas and one week with my wife. She is a big Elvis fan thus I took her to Graceland and Memphis. The bad part was that I got some sort of virus and was sick for much of the trip. I wanted to do some bowfishing with a guide at...

    Florida wildlife, pythons

Twenty five out of 150K? It could be a hell of a lot higher than that. That would be quite an adventure for someone who can afford it.

What do you take in smoothbore hunting bag?

When I am hunting the majestic Eastern Wild Turkey I do not go with traditional accoutriments. For my TC Black Mountain Magnum sidelock 12 guage I carry the following. Capper with musket caps. Small open faced wrench used as a nipple wrench. Three plastic speedloaders made for muzzleloading...

    Ohio BP "Coyote" Hunt

Most coyotes here in Massachusetts seem to be taken by deer hunters as an incidental target. I shot a nice one a number of years ago that weighed forty six pounds.

Opinions on the best MZ hunt in the lower 48?

I would like to thank everyone here for their input. This has given me a lot of food for thought in regards to what is available. I will add that I am also thinking of my father. One big issue is that he has some limitations, physically speaking. As a child he could outwalk me any day. He...

Opinions on the best MZ hunt in the lower 48?

Sure. I can hunt with a muzzleloader during the shotgun but the overall hunter success during Massachusetts shotgun is around 12 percent at best.

Opinions on the best MZ hunt in the lower 48?

You have an ace in the hole, so to speak. Rhode Island is probably the best state out of the six New England states to hunt deer with the muzzleloader. The season starts right during the rut. Even though I married a RI girl I can't seem to break the permission barrier in my neck of the woods. I...

Opinions on the best MZ hunt in the lower 48?

I was thinking about doing something different this year if finances and circumstances allow for it to occur. Like many hunters the muzzleloading season for deer is generally after the bow and general gun seasons. So you have less game and whatever survives is more spooked. I know in my home...

Banning muzzloader hunting on cruelty grounds?

He sounds like a real moron. I checked my maps and refreshed my memory regarding the size of that part of Australia. To me it is very capricious to deny citizens the opportunity to hunt in a traditional manner over a huge amount of territory. It is clear he has some significant prejudice in his...

    Ct. Deer Hunters,Please Read..

I will have to fill mine out in favor of a traditional season. I used to like the fact that in my youth muzzleloading was before the general firearm. As a non resident I am not sure if I would participate in it. As a non resident it would cost me a lot of money with a separate gun and...

    .36 Remington

I would love to have seen that work of art. Now a gun like that would be a wonderful hunting pistol if it were rifled. It almost makes me want to go to night school for machine shop and machining skills.

What state has the highest hunter success rate for muzzleloading?

Ok. I know this is a really open ended question that can prompt a great deal of responses. I know that some measure success in something personal such as being in a remote area away from people, etc. But I would like some opinions on success at taking deer. Some states have a high success rate...

No Muzzleloading Rifles for Small Game on National Refuges??

That seems to be the attitude of this generation for those who serve in government. They believe that we should serve them instead of the other way around.

Sam Fadala's Book " Black Powder Handbook"

His first edition was bought by my Dad when I was in high school and bitten by the muzzleloading bug really bad. The book was very helpful in a day and age when muzzleloading knowledge was difficult at best to obtain.

No Muzzleloading Rifles for Small Game on National Refuges??

That is the problem when you have bureacrats who do not hunt or shoot making the regulations for hunting and shooting. What a shame. In some states a wildlife refuge may be the only place where one could have an opportunity to hunt outside of spending a lot of money on a lease or club.
