Pietta Model 1851 Navy- Black Friday

I agree. I'm kinda late to this party, bought my 1851 Navy from Cabela's for $149.99 last week, and looks fine to me. Being the first BP gun not a bad price and as I learn over time ,then the better built guns will come . Did the same with modern cartridge guns have fun, and...

    Bout ready to pull trigger

I thought of squeezing them and glade to hear you agree. The manual suggests firing caps only to help clear out any oils debris what ever, I looked at nipple from the cylinder bore side with cylinder off of course and saw three nipples were slightly blocked. This will be a good time to see if...

    Bout ready to pull trigger

Received the Navy .44 brass frame, yesterday for what I paid I believe this will be a decent entry level gun. Manufacturer and dealer recommend not to exceed 25 grain loads of Pyrodex. FFF P. Could only find CCI # 11 caps seem lose to me, I put all 6 on the cylinder and sure enough all fell off...

    Civil War area Rifles

Not knowing those statics when I posed the question, I had a feeling life must been precarious at best and guns were necessity to survival. It stands to reason the old left over CW arms would be an easier way to go. Love this history :applause:

    Civil War area Rifles

These are some beautiful rifles, nice to know more about the percussion going beyond the cartridge guns. Replicas using new materials must be fun to shoot. I see a Hawkens replica available at a big retail store for $300 very very tempting. :hmm:

    Civil War area Rifles

I'm thinking as with the revolvers, rifles were brought with them by the civilian settlers even with advent of the cartridge 1873 Colt not all folks could run out and buy or otherwise obtain the newer guns.

    Civil War area Rifles

I'm so new to the hobby, I need a history lesson. My area of interest is Civil War weapons. I currently have a 1851 Navy revolver on it's way maybe two, I want a long gun to closely match the time these were used beyond the wars end. Cap and ball carried into settlement of the West. :hmm...

    Bout ready to pull trigger

So far I'm learning a lot , have checked a couple of local dealers they don't carry any BP or substitute products :idunno: So will start with online suppliers. Potato chip syndrome "can't just have one" that happened with other hobbies I've had ,so already looking for another.

My first cap and ball pistol I'm about ready to order,is an 1851 Navy confederate,in .44 As I understand .36 is more correct for this model, however as an beginner the price is very attractive for a 44. This will probably get a...
