    What Made You Choose Flintlock?

You to have to live in a different country! http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PSuCbHsAFOs/U71Cn-DNLnI/AAAAAAAAP6c/XDEORiMB5E0/s1600/Close+up+of+French+Flags+Last+of+the+Mohicans.jpg

    Wal-Mart Flannel?

Last time I checked it was something like $2.67 a yard, but many are print and kind of hokey! The bed sheet idea may be a better option if you're not into colors!

    Powder load

If by 'Hawkens .45' you are referring to T/C's .45 caliber Hawken Rifle, then extensive testing during the 80's with several of them got best group with 70 grains FFg Goex, .015 Ox-Yoke Wonder patches, lard/beeswax lube and a .440" round ball. 90 grains FFg nearly 1990 fps velocity. We had a lot...

    Slanted Breech vs Straight Breech

Haven't inlet a slant breech personally, but those guys I know agree it's much tougher to get it just right. Many end up having to epoxy the barrel and breech together for inletting, then using heat and scrapers to take the pieces apart when it's done.

    Excellent Hickory Rods Located

When John and Linda Shorb had it they ran a wonderful business...even making 4 and 2 bore wompum-stompem muzzleloaders. There was even a double barrel 8 bore for African safari. Great folks and inventive ideas. Glad to see the new owners are still keeping up the good work!

good load for 1851 navy & 1862 pocket?

Rendered lard is rendered lard...from what doesn't seem to matter! I always used Hodgdon's "Spit Ball"...besides coming in an easy to use plastic squeeze bottle, it had a nice odor and cute pink color! :rotf: Hey, it worked great and I carried the battle around in my back jean pocket!

    PRB Holder

I practice the same thing, thanks. My hunting uncle...my Uncle Bill (though his name was Millard  ) and his hunting buddy Lonny Thomas taught me not to hurry. They were a Bugler and a Prince Albert guy in that order. They'd reload and sit the rifles and horns aside and roll a quirley (old...

    J&S Hawken dueling pistols

You very well may be right...even if so intended there's no way to prove they were ever used for dueling and would certainly make good sash or holster pistols. Except for , though, for being American made and having captured ramrods, their really little different from these by Manton...

    Sources for a Trade Gun

Ask Britsmoothy. He's got one and did a couple things to his...don't recall all but he's pretty happy with his. OK...not 100% authentic but if you're a shooter, so what!

    Total newbie from Canada

Welcome to the addiction! Good to see new faces and never, and I mean never, be afraid to ask questions....for questions there will be. The whole sport can seem a bit overwhelming, at first, but just take it in steps and enjoy the fun.

    J&S Hawken dueling pistols

Yeah, I know but looks like they did make a pair of .66 caliber smooth bore pistols that certainly fit the profile of dueling pistols...at least for those who didn't follow the "Code Duello" too closely. Those who did only allowed flintlocks to be used...no rifling and no sights. Got to have...

    Is this a good deal?

What necchi said...the barrels alone are worth that!

    Sources for a Trade Gun

The Gun Works in Springfield, Oregon custom makes NW trade guns in 20, 24 & 28 gauge for $1050. They make and sell a variety of smoothbore and rifled guns. Their trade guns are about $300 to $1000 below most other makers.

    Unmentionable guns

Charles Wilson Peale, the famous painter, kept a record in his journal about his attempts to mount a telescope on a rifle in 1776. In the end the attempt failed because of the focal length involved in standard telescopes and the fact that rifles recoiled.
