What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Repurposed and added patina to some left over pellet tins for my bullet lube. 15-20sec all over with a map gas torch and rubbed the soot back with some red scotchbrite. Then rubbed a coat of bluing on followed by a coat of bullet lube all over.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Worked on freeing up the sliding action on my ships telescope so I can go on “Watch”. Slides nicely now while still holding focus and puts up a good image considering its age! I recovered it with some finished leather years ago for added protection and grip. With pistol and scope in hand I’m now...

    carrying loose shot

Several small shot pouches I’ve made, plus a measure. I tend to carry roughly 10-12 shots worth, which is more than enough for me. Little Dogwood flower detail on the antler tip reinforcements

    New Pistol

I havent but then again I soldered on a front site that I made from some brass stock instead of using the top of the barrel for reference.

    New File Knife

Made a new knife out of an old file that will be a gift to a good friend for allowing me the privilege to turkey hunt on his land. The knife is 6” long with 3/16” thick by 2-1/2” blade and 3-1/2” handle. Handle is Elk antler chew toy from the pet store and the pins are from 2mm bicycle spokes...

A “Bird in The Hand” Powder Horn

Thank for the prompting Polecat Tom. A little progress has been made. I’m struggling with how to best install the plug vs what looks best. I also can’t install the plug until I decide on the beak/spout design and finish that. I have cut a plug that mounts just below the “belly” surface, it has...

    Tang bolt drill jig

I can’t take all the credit. I did make these two but the idea came from someone here I’m sure!

    Tang bolt drill jig

The one above is one I made for the small pins but essentially works the same. Here’s the larger one I made for drilling tang bolts. This one uses a threaded bolt peened in place with a holed drilled through to the other side. Worked perfectly.

    New Small Shot Pouch

Made this for a club member friend for her double barrel. It’s 6” x 2.5” with 1/8” strap. A smallish pouch but holds 9 shots worth of 1.25oz #6 shot. That’s 11oz worth of lead yet small enough to be kept in a bag if desired. Hole reinforcement washers are antler tips shaped like dogwood flowers...

The “Claws are out” Powder Horn

It’s amazing how much pet store antlers have gone up in price! The great thing about their Buffaloe horn is it’s still relatively inexpensive. This piece was $5.

The “Claws are out” Powder Horn

Thank You for the compliments. I really enjoy making these “folk art” type pieces and love taking them back to the pet store to show them what was made from their “chew toys”!
