    Kibler colonial

All this hubbub... We fully disclosed that it didn't have good grain flow. Further, I would do absolutely nothing to it other than finish it as normal! I highly doubt it will ever break unless it takes an awful hard fall etc.

    My first attempt at Rococo

You're doing really good work for just starting out. With more practice, or better yet taking a class from a top-not carver, you'll be doing even better work. What I'm trying to say is that you're off to a good start, show good ability and could get really good with time.

    Patchbox on Kibler Woodsrunner

Do not do this!!! Make sure the box stops at the front of the inlet and file / sand the END of the box lid flush with the buttplate. Trying to do this the other way won't work since the spring won't fit properly.

    L&R Locks

I would use a different style of lock. Between what we offer and Chambers, there is a pretty extensive choice.

Thoughts on this touch hole placement

Fuse effect isn't real. Reference Larry Pletcher's good work timing flintlocks with a test rig and computer.

    Barrel Thickness and Dovetail Depth

As others have said, .030" depth is fine and I wouldn't hesitate to cut this in the wall thickness you suggested. I don't like to solder on lugs for rifles simply because you don't see this done on original work.

    Opening the ramrod thimbles

Yes, work the rod down. I'm not sure why some think the rod size is sacred. It's standard procedure with our kits to have to sand and taper the rods.

File & rasp sharpening service review

Unless it's something special, I don't like to resharpen. I don't think they cut the same. For example, it seems they are more prone to chattering. I have had rasps sharpened and they worked well.

Ram rod wont go all the in....im stumped!

If you want to make them like the originals it's the only way. Do you think they were unable to use their ramrods when at times their life depended on it? Why we so often think we are smarter blows my mind. As to holes, we drill them to .375" for our Woodsrunner and Colonial and .312" for our...

    Bore/barrel size

I assume you are referring to a straight octagon barrel? In this case, one big thing to consider is the wall thickness around the breech plug threads. With a swamped barrel where the breech is larger, most barrel makers are perfectly fine with .100" wall or even thinner.

Ram rod wont go all the in....im stumped!

Trying to drill it yourself is a very dangerous prospect. Usually if we have stopped drilling it's for a reason and we have to make adjustments for the hole to go as we want. I'm glad it worked out for you though. Just in general, if it's just a tight fit with the rod, don't try to do...

    finishing a Kibler lockset

Congress tools, Geiswein, MSC, and McMaster Carr should be able to fix you up with stones. I'm bought from Congress. I believe I've liked the Y-Oil stones as well as the super soft for brass details. Jim

Ram rod wont go all the in....im stumped!

Yeah, check the depth with a coat hanger or something similar. When we drill holes if it doesn't look as though it is going in the right place, we stop and then re-work the holes later. The hole should go pretty close to the barrel breech. Once in a while one of these stocks get through...

JB Weld on oversized wood holes....??

There was nothing that needed help. Trust me.

JB Weld on oversized wood holes....??

This is under the buttplate. You will not see a thing. Medium viscosity CA glue is very controllable as well. Don’t overthink and trust us. It is after all our product.

JB Weld on oversized wood holes....??

About any decent wood glue, CA glue, epoxy etc will work well to secure a plug. If the hole is at the comb of the buttplate, remember to offset it towards the barrel breach so the screw pulls the buttplate forward as it's tightened. If you need any replacement screws just let us know. Jim

    L&R Locks

If someone had a choice, I can’t understand why they would willfully choose a lock from this company. Pay attention to what highly respected professionals say and what the use.

    How is this done. Thanks

No to pouring brass in. Drill holes, undercut (easily done with small burr) peen in rod.

    Unique Cases

This is Katherine.. I just got a call from the new (previous) owner of Unique Cases, Jerry Morton. He and his wife started the company and successfully ran it for 25 years. A few years back they sold it to Wendy who has run off to another state and stop paying on everything. This is why the...

    Colonial .54 touch hole

Not sure what might have happened? Our toucholes come standard with liners installed and the hole size is a little bigger than 1/16”. We can supply a replacement. You can also take a piece of the 1/16” pin stock to check the size. If you should need help replacing the liner, you could always...
