    Thoughts on traditions rocklocks

Love my Kentucky rifle and pistol "rock locks". As others have said a little polishing and lube slicks them right up. I mainly use 5/8"x3/4" black English flints from TOW and the only failure to fire is when a haven't picked the touch hole after a few shots.

Flintlock pistol rested across arm safe ?

Is there an issues with resting a flintlock pistol across the forearm as a support when firing ? My concern would be powder burns on the hand from the pan but seems likely a non issue. I seem to remember seeing this stance used in various movies and tv shows based in the 18th century , but...

    cleaning brush

If you choose to use a brush make sure you ONLY use a brush that is locked to the shaft and use it with a solid range rod NOT the wood rod on the gun, and finally like O'Brian said give it a turn before retracting. Cheap brushes and rods account for 99% of issues of a stuck brush.

3F powder vs. 2F in .54cal flintlock rifle

Wow ! that's a 25% increase. I've always read and tested myself it's around 10% . Wonder how Lyman came up with that number ?

3F powder vs. 2F in .54cal flintlock rifle

I find that 3F leaves less/smaller fouling compared to 2F. Also flows better in a patent breach rifle. All my guns are 50 cal.

    Now I will clean it.

What are your humidity levels like over there ?

    Roundballs verses Conicals..??

If that's the case then BPMS's videos are not for you. He's about just having fun in a wacky and entertaining way. Plenty of analytical and scientific tests out there.

    Blueing a pistol barrell

Just ribbing you, but that price is insane even if they did the prep work. What would a new barrel or whole new gun cost compared to what you paid ? Was it rust blue or modern hot blued ?

    Track of the Wolf

I always order 11 flints from TOTW and request "no humpbacks" and always get flat flints. The 12 packs are prepacked and not able to hand sort.

    Exploding CVA barrel

These guys ran 160 grains of 2F in the same gun but in 50 and it was fine. Filled barrel, doubled ball etc. still fine. Took a load of smokeless to blow it up . 120 grs. of 3F in a 45 is stout but no match for Spanish steel.

Offhand accuracy with flintlock pistols ?

Just got done with my Traditions Kentucky flintlock pistol and have been putting it through it's paces. With 25 grains of 3F and patched round ball I can get a single ragged one hole group at 15 yards all day , when rested on a sand bag off the bench. Now when I get off the bag and bench things...
