    Goex Powder

The phrase "your mileage may vary" comes to mind. I've had no issues with excessive fouling with Schutzen or Goex, though of the two Schutzen fouls slightly less , but both preform almost equally. The fact I can get Schutzen for $23 a pound vs $28 for Goex is more of a driving factor for me...

Traditions Shedhorn failing to set off #11 caps

I would try another nipple first and eliminate the nipple as the source of the issue.

    Flints

Black English and French Amber flints are like Coke and Pepsi or Ford and Chevy. Some prefer English , some prefer French, both preform the same more or less. In my limited experience and using CVA and Traditions guns, I prefer the English Black in size 5/8" x 3/4" from TOW.

    Goex Powder

Schuetzen is not only cleaner shooting( for me anyways), it's cheaper.

    Fulfilling another Smoothbore viewer's request:

A muzzle brake on a modern high power centerfire rifle diverts muzzle blast to reduce felt recoil and muzzle rise. It would most likely have shattered the window. Even with no brake the muzzle blast from a modern rifle may have damaged the window. Here's an example of a brake: I watched a guy...

I was thinking the same thing, then figured it'd be okay with a low pressure BP gun.

    A question about pyrodex

Every time someone says Pyrodex works good for them and have no rusting issues after proper cleaning.

    For the Thompson Center Folks.

They just bought an empty factory here in my home town and got a 10 year tax embayment from the town. No word on when or what is coming. It's about 6 miles from my house and I am looking forward to seeing what jobs are available. Word is the Contender and Encore will be first to return to...

    Fulfilling another Smoothbore viewer's request:

When those first two unpatched balls went in the same hole I thought , BP maniac shooters been holding out on us.🤣 The way the gun still fired perfectly without a frizzen spring really shows how little spring strength is needed. Just enough to keep it closed on the pan while running around, yet...

    Cleaning Question

Humidity plays a big part, for me at least. At around 60% or less I can shoot all day with prelubed patches with no issues. It's gets above 60% and things start to be problematic with bore fouling and pan fouling in flintlocks. I'll add that with my patent breech guns swabbing can cause more...

    Make some smoke this July!

Me and my 4 year old grandson will be wear matching colonial clothes complete with tricorn hats, flying the Besty Ross flag, and firing our flintlock rifles. Even if his only fires paper caps. God bless America!

    WORST DAY AT THE RANGE!

This reminds me of a study done where a convoluted riddle was created and asked to Harvard grads, professors, other "well educated" people, etc. and the same number of 1st graders. Only like 13% of the adults got it right but 96% of the children got it right. The correct answer was "I don't...

    A question about pyrodex

I find it interesting that books and articles from the 1980's talk up Pyrodex as being a cleaner burning powder with less fouling and less corrosive than BP. I think this led to a lot of people thinking they didn't have to clean their rifles as well or as soon after shooting. This then led to...

Restoration of a French 1786 musket

I thought the same thing, wonder what the back story is on this musket .

    A question about pyrodex

It's called a "duplex load" for a flint lock. About 5 or 10 grains of BP followed by a measured amount of Pyrodex.(like R Ellis stated above) Always use BP in the pan. For cap lock straight Pyrodex works fine. Be sure to clean soon as possible and very good, I find Pyrodex to be a tad more...

Restoration of a French 1786 musket

Came across this video of a restoration of a 1786 French musket . It's more of a deep clean/repair. There is NO talking, NO music, NO bs in this video; in fact it may put you to sleep with the white noise of a shop and the sounds of spraying oil and screwdrivers. Whoever this is they are very...

    WORST DAY AT THE RANGE!

Outside the kids and grandkids, I shoot alone on my own property. It's my " me time" which I don't get very often .
