    Ignition WOES!!

Thanks nkbj.. I tried to cover all that. I flushed out all flash ways with carb cleaner. Fired several caps. As stated before, having had this rifle for such a long time & have never experienced a situation like this before. Tried two different ( used ) nipples, that were absolutely clean &...

    Ignition WOES!!

I have been using Remington brand caps up till now. They ran out , & am now using CCI. They look bright & shinny . May be a couple of weeks before I can get to town. Will look then for some fresh caps.

    Ignition WOES!!

I have tapped on the side of the rifle till my hand is raw. I have shot a GP 54 for years with never a problem like this. Just gave it a very hot water /soapy bath. Bright & shinny every where. I have a nipple pick & have used it over & over. Nipples are clean & clear. I don't see how I can make...

    Ignition WOES!!

Lyman Great Plains 54cal percussion. Lee 300GR REAL. 120gr FF black powder substitute powder. CCI percussion cap. Haven't fired this rifle for about a year. Last time I fired it, never a problem. Now , a lot of miss fores. or delayed fire. Tried two different nipples, squeaky clean with carb...

    Thank you.

    #10 vs #11 percussion caps

Yes they are CCI 10;s. Just decided I will keep them. I have lots of 400 & 600 grit emery cloth. Simple to sand one nipple down to accept the #10 cap. Then I will have nipples for 10 or 11 size caps. Best of both worlds. Thanks all for your help.

    #10 vs #11 percussion caps

Thanks. Sounds great, just never get that far out. Will probably breakdown & pick up a tin next time I'm in Missoula , at Scheels. If they still have them. $9.99. Ug!! hats 10 cents a piece. Have no idea when I will get to Missoula . Life goes on...

    #10 vs #11 percussion caps

I'd be glad to trade. Problem is the shipping. Haz mat fee. if you have the license to begin with. Then the cost of shipping. An impossible situation. If we were close by it would be a done deal..

    #10 vs #11 percussion caps

Problem where I'm at , no local sporting goods store.. Lots of local critters. Always smiling as they walk by. None are packing tins of caps.

Good to hear. Thanks so much.

    #10 vs #11 percussion caps

I saw Scheels in Missoula has #11 caps, $9.99 a tin. Plus they are almost 60 miles away. If the #10 caps have the same force as the #11 I am willing to sand down the exulting nipple to fit the #10's. I have other extra nipples for the #11's when I get them.

    #10 vs #11 percussion caps

I have a bunch of #10 percussion caps. Problem is my Lyman Great Plains 54 rifle takes a #11 cap. If I chucked up my GP nipple in my drill press & sanded it down with some 600 grit emery cloth till the #10 caps fit.., Good idea, bad idea ?? #11's have been a bit hard to come by..

    Frozen screw

Thanks guy's . Really appreciate it. I love my GP 54. Very accurate & this screw just frustrated me on an otherwise great rifle..

    .665 RB ??

Really. i haven't got a clue. There are so many items that are foreign to me. Digging thru , little bu little.

    .665 RB ??

Amongst all the old reloading items left to me are these large , .665 RB's. Best as I can measure. What cal rifle uses these ?? I am only familiar with modern 50 & 54 cal rifles. I guess at some time in the future I can melt them down for my use...

    Antique RB molds ??

Thank you for your info. They were left to me with no explanations . I'm not up on these molds at all.

    Antique RB molds ??

I inherited a bunch of old antique type reloading equipment. These two RB molds are part of that. The larger mold is stamper .45 on the bottom. You see there are no spreu cutter plates. I guess you would cast the ball, then nip off the spreu.. The ball from the larger mold measures exactly .450...
