    Been there did that.

CLOSED Lyman Great Plains 54 Set

Boy would I like to have that set. $850 is a good deal. I don't suppose my birthday is less than a week gone by would do me any good. I'd hate to pay shipping for my own birthday gift, though.

Who among us are PIPE smokers?

I started as a kid. When I was old enough to take a single shot .22 to the woods, I'd leave the house after breakfast with that old Winchester and not come home until it was too late to shoot. My secret was a harvested cornfield 'twixt me and the big timber. That was before harvesting was done...

Which is historically correct, precut patches or cut at muzzle?

Sort of, to me, 'cause I am OCD. In some ways, but other things not very much. Like with a sandwich. I can't have the mustard touching the bread. I have to put it between the meat and lettuce. Nor can I eat a sandwich by biting off different size bites. Actually I eat sandwiches with a knife...

    What Remington 1858 to Buy?

I love my Pietta but I want and would rather have a Uberti. Having both would be nice.

    What Remington 1858 to Buy?

That is a very nice gun. I suppose we all have some degree of vanity. Mine is strong enough to permit looks to heavily influence 1858 choices, and sufficiently powerful to keep the practical but hideous G word carry piece out of my home. I say all that to express my opinion that yours is the...

    How heavy is too heavy?

My Pedersoli/Lyman GPR is close too 10 pounds. Everytime I start thinking it is too heavy I remind myself how heavy the originals were. But 16 pounds! Although recoil is not an issue for me, that's just too heavy to tote around, at least for me. But you sure 'nuff have a good looking rifle

Were loading blocks not found among the mountain men's possibles?

    Flint knapping help

Must be more to it than I realize. A few taps and mine are back in service. Now if I had to make a rifle flint from just a chunk, I wouldnt know how to proceed. I once attended a "knap in" where everyone sat around in a barn knapping different products. Seemed to be a real art requiring much...

    Rifle plug removal, field removal

I have never and have no plans or reason to ever remove a breech plug. I think it ludicrous.

    lubing patches

Wonderlube is hated by so many because of the seasoning lie. But I don't see that it is worse than other products when used to lube patches. My store-bought pre-cut and pre-lubed patches have performed fine lo these many years.

    lubing patches

ALWAYS I have simply bought them pre-lubed. Keep them in the plastic bag they come in or transfer them to an airtight container and they will last indefinitely. I don't have time to make my own, and besides, if you have to buy patch material anyway, why not buy it already lubed?

    Handgun reloader meets leadball

If a really tight load works well, that's what I'd use. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see where you said you had to pound the ball down the barrel.

    SMR #16

Beautiful, although my taste runs askew of most. Your finish is excellent but I like it a bit lighter. The stock is a terrific piece of maple but my favorite is less fancy and not so over the top. And I prefer a browned metal. All that said, you are very talented. 14 Kiblers is amazing. I don't...

    T/C Under New Management

TC sidelocks were never representative of a Hawken. Too light, too short, stock too straight, and the sights and are an abomination to traditionalist. The used ones have value only because they are no longer made, and even that is recognized only by people like us. The majority of American...

who needs stinking rifling! Kibler fowler group,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Good idea, but the downward curve of the stock would create an open area between the bottom of the sight (the "base") and the stock. Or maybe not. I reckon the base could be bent to conform. Never mind.
