    Traditional M/L Guns from India

This is a gorgeous piece and is coming up to auction in 3 or 4 days in the UK (unfortunate for some of our American collectors) with a fairly low starting bid of £320, I wonder if it will get picked up for a decent price

    India Torador Matchlock Wall Gun

He and I have definitely bonded on that, both being overland hitchhikers. Though I’d say he has done it when the world was a more mysterious and romantic place, no internet or blogs to tell you what’s good and what to expect ahead of time. In SouthEast Asia now, where once upon a time I was...

Don’t make the mistake I did in visiting during Ramadan! Difficult to even find a place that will sell you a bottled water during the day! But the airport sells fancy bandolier belts in the gift shop!

The Jezail that defeated the British equipped Brown Bess.....and an old Hakka Gun and

Miles is a friend and really knows his stuff, having spent so much time in Afghanistan. Saw him last year in Thailand, unfortunately didn’t get around to any of the hobby related activities. The Matchlocks in Asia really stuck around for a long time, here’s a photo from 1945 in China. Who’s...

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

LOL what a coincidence! I'm gonna assume the silver stocked Ledenica he worked on was yours as well? Do you have the ball that he pulled from your pistol and do you recall it's caliber and weight?

    Ottoman Guns

The only other one I've seen was also another Bulgarian Boyliya. I can't say I know much of anything on this enclosed type. The first one I posted belongs to a collector in Bulgaria and this one was from an auction. unfortunately, corruption has always afflicted these regions. The 30 page...

    Ottoman Guns

Oh boy, I have gone into things I never thought I'd research today, ancient currencies/their gold or silver content, Ottoman wages, math etc. So, according to "Real Wages and Standards of Living in the Ottoman Empire, 1489-1914" by Süleyman Özmucur & Şevket Pamuk, the average daily wage from...

    Ottoman Guns

I found some information regarding the prices these guns would have cost. In 1859 it was noted in the French Geographical Society that in Sliven, Bulgaria that a very finely decorated Boyliya cost 15 Napoleans. This would be equivalent to just about $60 at the time. Here is an example of what...

    India Torador Matchlock Wall Gun

Some years ago International Military Antiques & Atlanta Cutlery bought TONS of antique arms out of Nepal and brought them stateside, no Toradors that I know of, but you can see the state of which the arms were being "preserved" in. I haven't been in India but have ventured into Nepal, I guess...
