Anyone ever hunt with a handgonne?

The next frame in this series shows the guy with multiple arrows protruding from his chest that got there while he tried to light his handgonne! 😉🙂

    New 40 Cal

Sounds like it was a great buy for you...and a shooter!

I forgot to pack the roundballs - but the substitute worked

If it was true it would prove that ingesting sweets is bad for one's health...at least for deer! 😆 Great story! 👍

    Successful Stalk

Well, here are my thoughts: His left lung was mush from the first ball. He wasn't drowning as it was nearly all pouring out the hole in front. His diaphragm, right lung, and heart, until hit by the second shot, were still functional. It has been my experience that single lunged deer, where...

    Successful Stalk

Most of my whitetail stalking has been during early bow season. Very hard to get into bow range stalking, at least for me. Yet my one success doing it was so freakish it's truly unbelievable! Decades ago a video was released called The Bowhunter and was narrated by Curt Gowdy. In it they...

    Successful Stalk

Sadie Mae. She is half chocolate lab and half border collie. Very sweet and sensitive like a lab, extremely energetic and intelligent like a border collie. She's 4 years old. Great dog. My daughter intentionally cross bred the parents to see what she'd end up with. Nine pups in the litter...

    Successful Stalk

I am a few years younger and still sitting regular treestands or on the ground in my turkey chair, but sitting for long in the cold on those devices is getting harder and harder. 2 1/2 to 3 hours and I'm done. Told my wife that I can see why guys make nice box blinds and sit in a comfortable...

Broken frizzen, is this a common thing?

I've never heard of frizzens snapping off as common. Properly made, they should last for a long, long, time and not break. Sounds like a defective one to me.

How Does a Touch Hole Liner Improve Reliability?

I have a rifle without a touch hole liner. It is reliable, but not quite as much as my other rifles with liners. It is also just a tad slower ignition time. It all works fine, but I have to be a little more careful in my loading regimen and I always pick the touch hole to ensure a clear...

    Safe or naw

Only keep that one to duplicate the tang measurements on a new one so it sits down into the existing inlet, then toss it in the trash. Do not shoot with that one. As already stated, with a patent breech, drill straight through into the anti chamber. No notching needed.

Great shooting! 👍 Really did a job on her heart. 😯 Congrats!

    unicorn …

Congratulations! He will be great eating. 👍 It looks like a normal button on his right side. I have read that, while rare, some button bucks can actually grow a very small spike or spikes. Looks like you found one of them.

Are you guys still bucks only, except if you draw a doe tag? I've read, and even saw a TV report, that the deer herd up there really took a dive...so much so that the metro folks aren't coming up there much anymore.

    Successful Stalk

The Minnesota regular firearms season started on Saturday. I don't hunt with modern arms, so decided it was time to get my Isaac Haines .54, made by our own Dave Person to replicate an original, out for the season. I could have ended my season at 7am Saturday on a very large doe at 25 yards...

    Interesting Slow Mo

One can tell they know pretty close to zero about black powder guns. Maybe they could have actually talked to some knowledgable flintlock/black powder folks before making the video so they had some idea of what their subject was. In the end, though, I think they understand the power of these guns.

    replacement for TC bore butter

If you are already making this mixture and it also works great for patch lube, use it! None of those ingredients are going to harm your barrel! If one thing does two jobs that's better than using two separate things.

Flintlock accuracy and need help finding load

IIRC, bedding a barrel is not just a modern thing. I remember reading that, while perhaps not common, bedding has been done for a long time. Different materials, like wax, were used vs modern epoxies, but then our barrels aren't wrought iron anymore either. Perhaps someone with a deeper...

    replacement for TC bore butter

Agree on ToTW mink oil. Much better than Bore Butter for patches. You can also make your own olive oil/beeswax lube. I'll let others here chime in on their formulas.

German Shorthairs are such graceful, beautiful dogs! 😍

    Opening Morning

Loved the story! Congratulations. 👍 I use the same process as a deer moves through brush. Keep the sights on them and follow. Many times that one hole will appear and you can make the shot. 🙂
