Pedersoli announce a .54cal 'Hawken target rifle...

I was disappointed that their Lorenz had a non-historically-correct patent breech, as well as a 90-degree fire channel with a hidden and inaccessible cleanout screw, rather than the direct vent channel it had historically. I wish Pedersoli would stop monkeying with the fire channels and...

need help with 58 minie bullet mold

As others noted, you cannot count on what is stamped on the barrel. It is meaningless other than to give you a ballpark idea of what it was supposed to be. You can buy a set of Class ZZ minus pin gauges from Travers.com or amazon or whatever. They are about $5 each. I recommend getting them...

New to BlackPowder revolvers- question on cylinder/bore 'fitting'.

I am no gunsmith. But it seems to me the most important thing is that when fully cocked, the chamber is aligned with the bore. On firing, the bullet will be gone in an instant before play will have much chance to do anything. A borescope is useful in seeing the "crescent moon" shape of a...

    Accuracy....

That is a crazy good group with that load and range.

Do you think that modern ML firearms have any investment value?

Specialty, semi-custom-made guns like a Shiloh Sharps may appreciate in value. You never know what will be collectible in the future, though.

A nice video on the North-South Skirmish Association with footage from last week's Nationals!

Awesome! I've been doing it for 12 years now. It's a hoot! I love the combination of "individual" competition where you shoot at paper targets in a particular gun and range category of your choice, and I love the team competition where you work as a team to blast away at breakable targets and...

    Grains by weight or volume???

When I use a volumetric drop to drop black powder, I do it the opposite of that. I set the volumetric dropper and then measure the output on the scale. I then tweak the volumetric dropper until it drops the correct weight. Be aware that the volumetric dropper is subject to changes in...

When was the last percussion shotgun sold in the United States

It is an interesting question that I would like to know the answer to also. However, I think you are going to have a hard time delineating between when "originals" ended and "reproductions" started. Unless it turns out there was a significant gap of time when no percussion shotguns were...

    How often to disassemble lock?

I hardly ever disassemble my competition locks. I will pull them from the stock, dunk clean them in the sink with warm soapy water, blast dry with compressed air, and then spray with Kroil and wipe down. There is little reason to disassemble a functioning lock.

A nice video on the North-South Skirmish Association with footage from last week's Nationals!

The N-SSA was founded as a team endeavor. The very first skirmish was between two teams, and it grew from there. A couple of years ago the N-SSA started allowing Individual memberships. As an individual you can shoot in individual competition and/or as a pickup on a team that needs shooters...
