    Best find yet

    At a gun show this weekend I found a Pietta made, Navy Arms Patterson revolver. Made in 1980 It had not been cleaned well so the action was rusty. The dealer didn't know anything about BP. So I got it cheap. A couple of days in penetrating oil and then a bath in the ultrasonic cleaner was...

    Everyone's thoughts about these rifles ?

    The TC is a good gun but the SMR is better, IMHO. Also, 50 cal components are easier to find than 45. I have had a Dixie SMR 50 for about 40 years now. Second BP gun I bought. Shot competition with it. Shot it so much that I had to have the frizzen refaced. Highly recommend it. Before you...

    Rescued a Duck{foot}

    Went to my gunsmith today. First thing he did was hand me this forlorn little pistol. Looks like a half finished kit. He found it in a box of parts that he got in a trade. I was looking for a winter project so I bought it. Does anyone know where I can get instructions for this kit? Thanks...

    Perfect revolver?

    I have about a dozen c&b revolvers, colt and Remington copies. Used to have a ROA but I sold it. If I have to choose it would be my 1862 Metropolitan Police. Not the biggest or the showiest, but the best for me. Ironhand

    So Re: cleaning - Does anyone use an ultrasonic for handgun cleaning?

    I have had a Hornady ultrasound unit for years. Works great for all handguns that are short enough to fit in it. Mine is too short for a Remington NMA. Luckily my NMA is stainless. Colts can, of course, be disassembled. Nipples are placed in a small pill bottle of solution and dropped in the...

    The Best Muzzleloading Movies

    Patriot, authentic right down to the type face of the newspaper. One of my favorites. LOTM, not so authentic but great fun. Hawks,knives and trade guns. You got to love it. Josey Wales, some errors but still a great depiction of c&b revolvers. Also one of the best westerns ever. Ironhand

    TC New Englander: Fixed Choke vs. Tubes?

    Having had one of each I would go with the fixed choke. As stated tight chokes can be tough to get a wad down, especially in the field. 25 yards is doable with the right load. I did it with a 20 gauge. Another factor is the very fine threads on the choke inserts. They are an ideal place for...

    Questions on a rifle I saw for sale

    My first flintlock was the factory version of this gun. I shot it so much that I had to go up. 005 in ball size to account for wear. Split cards, split balls, punched paper. Won a few matches. Eventually I wore out the frizzen and had to have it resoled. Front heavy? Maybe, but I never...

    Cleaning a "Patent Breech"

    Shotgun bore mops do a great job getting down in a patient breech. I use a 410 mop on TC guns. They clean all of the surfaces with no chance of getting stuck like a brush can. As a side benefit, they can be washed out and reused. Ironhand
