    whitneyville cylinder face wear

The mechanically-inclined members will be along shortly. Suggestions of adding a shim of sorts to the arbor to lengthen it will follow. I’ve had my three cap and ball revolvers worked on by @45D and could not be happier.

    whitneyville cylinder face wear

Clearly dragging. Can you see light between cylinder and forcing cone with hammer at rest? Can you feel the dragging during cocking? Loosen the wedge a bit and see if it makes a difference? Someone who knows what they are doing will be along shortly. 😀

    nipple wrench measurements

Lonepine, I too had bad luck with nipple wrenches until I bought the Chapman wratcheting set. Worth every penny. Look them up.

1864-produced Remington 1858 New Model Army: trigger weight should be???

I’m thinking the previous heaviness masked the positive sear engagement a bit and you are just noticing it now because you’re not working so hard to pull the trigger. You didn’t change any angles as you said, it should not have changed. I did take a pistol smithing class with Hamilton Bowen 21...

That’s a nice looking front sight @M. De Land

The Colt Open Top Hammer Sight

Thanks for those pics. They do help. I too am going to raise the front sight as my gun shoots a foot high at about 10 yards. She’s otherwise a peach so I want to wring the best out of her. PS I’m thinking a nicely made and carefully installed dovetail front sight might be the ticket. Not...

    Uberti 1849 pocket

I just started shooting a new to me Uberti 1849 and .323 diameter balls load well, makes a ring and shoots very accurately.

    Colt 1851 Navy—120 yards?

I’m good at my 100 yard range to do it. I shoot alone 90% of the time. 😀👍🏼

    Colt 1851 Navy—120 yards?

It’s supposedly to tighten the loose wedge (a contentious subject here) The way he taps so consistently to me makes me think he might be doing it to simply ensure consistency from shot to shot. Why only at 20 meters and bench rested? Why not at 50-100 meters offhand? We don’t know. PS I wonder...

    Colt 1851 Navy—120 yards?

You can see in the beginning of the video where he’s shooting at 25 meters he’s using his copper powder flask to tap on the side of the gun. The wedge is there.

    Colt 1851 Navy—120 yards?

I can hit a 16” gong with my .36 some of the time. 1 or 2 in 6 shots. Definitely one. That’s once I’m dialed in with it. Keep in mind I’m standing still, not being shot at and know the distance. If a pistolero was Hickok-level, 90 is doable. With unmentionables, I’ve been practicing 100 yard or...

    chamber sealant

What about the idea that the lube in front softens the BP fouling making the revolver able to shoot longer before needing cleaning? Saturday, I shot 7 cylinders out of my Goonerized 1849 pocket and i swear you could not tell from the outside that it had been shot at all. I lubed with Bore butter.

    first time whitneyville

I’ve been using moose milk recently. 1:7 ballistol water iirc. Q tips work great. I believe you have a good setup. With moose milk I have zero issues with rust.

    Goon strikes again

Received my Uberti Colt 1849 back from Goon a few weeks back. .323 ball was picked up at Kempton’s Gunmakers Fair. 10 grains Goex 3F and bore butter in a syringe. She’s an absolute dream to shoot. Accuracy is excellent! I’ll need to do a taller front sight at some point since this thing shoots a...
