A fowler for round ball accuracy

I was thinking about this today, then came back here to post this. There is a gun that comes to mind that just simply fits all the criteria that Bill posted here. The T/C Renegade 56 smooth bore. Well mostly, I don't think it would be a good wing shooter. And I've been hemhawing around here...

A fowler for round ball accuracy

I'm right there with you Bill, I posted about this and asked the question in other threads. But me, I want a do it all smoothie. If I wanna smack a buck, or shoot some doves, squirrels, rabbits. I want to grab ONE gun. I got the answer of " have a rifle for shooting ball and a fowler for...

Gemmer Hawken vs the Lyman GPR

So since Lyman stopped importing the GPR. Has anyone compared the new ML.com Gemmer Hawken to a Lyman GPR? Are there any differences in quality, mountings, etc? Or is it the same rifle as the GPR?

    chamber sealant

I use a 50/50 mix of beezwax and Lambs Tallow ( you could substitue beef tallow, lard, crisco, etc) This makes for a stiff lube that I use over the ball. Most of it gets blown out of the barrel and believe it or not it's not very messy. I think this stiff lube acts like a lube cookie. I used...

    Woodsrunner on the Way!

You are gonna LOVE that thing. Points naturally, balances perfect, even in .54 she's easy on the shoulder, blazing fast lock, and a nail driver. "Ole Shug" (yeah you gotta name yours too) makes it tough to grab any of the others.

    You call that a rifle.

I REALLY feel the need to witness one of these being shot. So who has one and how far do I need to drive. :D

    You call that a rifle.

Didn't someone post a Brontosaurus killer on here a while back. If I recal it was a rifled barrel with a bore close to 1 inch. like .950" or something like that. I think the fella said the charge was like 200 grains. Aww, heck lets just call up Hern and get us a Mountain howitzer barrel and...

    You call that a rifle.

The scene from Police academy where granny touched of the big 44 came straight to my brain.

    You call that a rifle.

So do you load the charge in the little tin foil packets? And head out to Isla Nublar?

Can you guys school me on grades of Hawkens? Quality, value, etc.

Agreed a T/C would be a good bet to find one available and trade for, the sheer number of them out there is in your favor. A factory barreled Hawken is not gonna be terrible either. Granted the Green Mountain slow twist suggestion is definitely a plus. But you could always slide into one with a...

Just bought a Pietta 1851 Navy in .36, what do I need to know?

No one said you need a 50 dollar set of nipples to enjoy them. That recommendation was and IS due to the scarcity of certain brands and sizes of caps. The OP asked what he needed to know. That is a need to know.

Just bought a Pietta 1851 Navy in .36, what do I need to know?

Mike is a dang good smith on these charcoal burners. His input is welcome and we can have a discussion thats what we are here for. The subject of chain fires is like patch lube, ford vs. chevy, politics, etc. It can get spicy :D

Just bought a Pietta 1851 Navy in .36, what do I need to know?

most likely variances in production. No doubt aftermarket nipples are a good upgrade for any cap and ball. Slix shot, tresso's, etc. I'm stuck on slix shot. They are a great cone.

Just bought a Pietta 1851 Navy in .36, what do I need to know?

I don't think we were spreading BS at all. All I can do on these forums is relay my experiences as others did for me years ago when I got started. I burn black powder out of a revolver, BPCR, or a long gun at least twice a week. So those experiences I talk about happen often. I know CCI 11's...
