What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I haven’t shot my 10 gauge New England Fowler for a good while due to some surgery. Now that I am all healed up it felt great feeling like I have been punched in the shoulder by Mike Tyson. Two loads of 00 buchshot and nine shots of a .740 patched rb with 80 grains of 3f goex. All shots were...

    Woodsrunner Question?

Back in the day the most expensive part of a long gun was the barrel and lock. Labor was cheap, unlike today where the gun builder makes more money on his carving than the barrel and lock.

.62 smoothbore as an all around gun?

Mark Wheland built my Jim Chambers Smooth Rifle in 28g/54cal. It is a fabulous gun!

    Brennan 40 cal

Real nice and clean looking. I like the dark stained stock. 40 cal is hard to beat! I wish I knew how Jud got that dark color on that maple stock.

New to smoothbore and what I like for a RB loading charge

I normally shoot patched round balls from my 28guage/54cal smooth rifle. Accuracy was good. My clean up was easy. My last outing, I tried bare balls and the accuracy wasn’t anything to write home about. My cleanup was really bad. The bore was scored with lead. I had to use steel wool on a...

    .54 for Target?

Ain’t nothin beats a 10 gauge for putting holes in paper.

How do you load your fowler?

Stay away from those thick cardboard nitro cards. They tend to shoot right through your shot pattern and leave a hole in the pattern. I feel a patched round ball is better than a bare ball.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Do you think maybe you could get some walnut husks and give that bag a nice dark natural look? Any way, you did good.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Today I shot my 40cal Tennessee flintlock with a Getz barrel and some Swiss 3f powder. I always shot goex powder for ever, luckily I bought 50 pounds of it year’s ago. Well, after hearing how good Swiss powder is, I picked up 2 pounds of 3f to try out. I weighed my powder charges and rbs and...

What do you carry your fire kit in?

This is the raised Altoids tin. I beat the lid with a ball peene hammer then I hit it with a propane torch. Can’t even tell it was a altoids tin.

    getting brass black

I always use dirty bp patches to darken my shiny brass.

    Bore brushing.

I never had the need to use a brush on the bores of my rifles. I only shoot patched rbs and I never had a problem with the bore with lead deposits. If I did need to brush the bore, I would first soak the bore with ballistol and use a nylon brush where the bristles would easily bend when...

    Kibler Fowler Arrived!

What kind of metal preparation will you have to do on a round barrel? Are the barrels ready for some finishing?

    Show your Muzzleloading gems.

Yes, it takes a great amount of artistic skill to carve a beautiful wood stock. But it really takes some special skill to carve a duplicate!
