    Help improving my group

I use whatever thickness ticking or drill cloth the rifle likes and a wet patch around the ball. No lube residue after fireing and has made a noticeable improvement in my groups. I was about to give up on a 40 colerain bbl until I tried alcohol. Its cheap to try.

    Help improving my group

Yes. Try something non greasy or oily. Plain windshield washer fluid or Alcohol. I actually use liquid hand sanitizer and tried it out of desperation on my 40 cal bench rest rifle. Now I understand the we will hear the wont work for hunting people but let’s forget that for now. I believe the...

So I take it you’re not one of the (Shoots better than I can) people🤣 I’m also never quite satisfied with some of my bench groups on some of my rifles. Tell me what ALL lubes you have tried so far.

You will die early fretting over the small things in life 😂

    Advice on touch hole liner

Install a liner in the most favorable spot you can get away with . Probably needs to be done in a milling machine with a center cutting end mill. Counter bore breech plug face to bore diameter deep enough to get rid of notch. That will require a lathe.

Ball calibers and diameters make no sense.

Revolver used no patch and needs to be groove size. Rifle uses patch to make up the difference. It’s that simple. Once revolver ball is seated in cylinder it will be smaller by shaving lead to seal in the chamber.

    Mass produced flintlocks

One sure way to know is buy it and then you can be the guy who knows all about it. I scored a woods walk this weekend and a guy got second place with some old CVA bobcat cheapie flint rifle. He had de breached it and enlarged the powder channels along with various other things and had nerves of...

    A true Jack Garner Build?

I had one when M Avance was taking over TVM. It was signed J Garner and so poorly built I sent it back and Matt built a new one.

    Which Rifle?

Someone had asked for differences. Note no bridal for lock internals on cheap imported locks. All parts are likely just case hardened. Do the import locks work? Yes they will with various degrees of performance for a time. But not to the level of bette and more expensive locks. I’m not hating...

    Finest rifle guns.

Of course this is MY favorite builder/school. The Issac Haines rifle is tops in ergonomics, overall size and weight. Comfortable butt plate no ridiculous drop in stock comb and down right sexy to the eye. These two are plain but mechanically sound and good shooters In .50 and .40 cal. Will be...

How often do you guys take apart and oil your locks?

You should not be getting powder or fouling past the lock and barrel joint. If you are it’s not fitting correctly and should be corrected.
