    Uberti pock mark in frame

You mean because it doesn't look like this ( as it should) it's "no good"?! This is a Pietta Navy frame. Mike

    Uberti pock mark in frame

Filled with what ?! You actually think they went back and "almost" filled it in ?!

    Uberti pock mark in frame

    Yup

    Uberti pock mark in frame

No, no need to. It will work just perfect and if it's a conversion, will handle +p loads just fine. It's not a "casting void", it's a machining "breakthrough". Mike

    Uberti pock mark in frame

    OMG !! 🤣

    Uberti pock mark in frame

Just machining into an area that's thin anyway and breaking through. No harm no foul . . . definitely no structural harm. I see it all the time. Mike

    Uberti pock mark in frame

Haa!!! Like this one? I'm working on this one right now!!! There's absolutely nothing to worry about. It's a "break through" from machining the hand channel. No need to "send it back"!!! Lol Mike

    What Remington 1858 to Buy?

Yap, but you can't shove the .452 down the "bore" of the barrel without a rod and a hammer . . . just like a Blackhawk, Colt SAA, Uberti Dragoon, Pietta .44 Army/Navy et al. You're correct in that the ROA is a ".45" but just like the Uberti /Pietta (and others) are ".45's". My 5 ROA's...

    What Remington 1858 to Buy?

Nope, they're. 45's ( .452) just like Pietta and Uberti "44's". .457" balls just give you more bearing surface for the 1:18" rifling. The ball is "sized" at loading ( same as with all cap gun revolvers). Mike

Trying to understand this “short arbor” on Uberti revolvers

Exactly. If it's OK with you then there's no problem. But at least now you know ( yer edgumacated!!). Mike

Trying to understand this “short arbor” on Uberti revolvers

They're all short (Uberti's) and have been since some time in the '60's. As far as some being worse than others, that will depend on how it's used. The Navy has more material than the Army so it handles its lighter powder charge better. Therefore, it's not going to exhibit the problems...

Interesting, what makes you say that? Mike

Trying to understand this “short arbor” on Uberti revolvers

This IS what happens in open top revolvers with wedges that are in with "thumb pressure" , set with a feeler gauge, a smack with the heel of the hand . . . It means the wedge isn't supported and can therefore "move". If the wedge isn't between 2 fixed points, it doesn't do anything but...

Trying to understand this “short arbor” on Uberti revolvers

Maybe he understands there's not been a 2nd Gen found to be right? Especially '51 Navy's. Typically the arbor hole breaks through at the bottom. You can get a visual of how short the arbor is . . . not to mention the originals weren't drilled through and the arbor was correct length. Some...

    ASM 1847 Whitneyville Walker value?

I think you'd be much better off buying a new Uberti for a few bucks more than a possibly cheaper (depending on what else is wrong with it) out of production ASM. Most 'smiths these days won't work on anything but current made cap guns. Mike

    Uberti deceiving arbor fit

I agree but they've been building them wrong since the '60's. Biggest difference about Pietta "fixing" theirs is they build everything off of one o.t. platform whereas Uberti has 4 o.t. platforms. Mike

    Uberti deceiving arbor fit

Uberti started off (late 50's - early 60's) with arbors of correct length which I reported on in the "cap and ball 120 y." thread. ( even showed pics of basically the very same revolver he was using!) So, I think it's pretty obvious "more" production is priority over "correct" production...
