cast my first bullet ever, critiques?

My advice is to cast in a peaceful way and make sure that your spouse and or kids understand that this is not the time to interrupt and be sure any pets can't suddenly show up to break your rhythm. Casting molten metal is a dangerous project and you do not want any mistakes. Wear a full face...

    Flat spots on tumbled balls

I put mine in a vibratory stone polisher with a tad of graphite over night. Run it out in the shop so it doesn't bug me. :)

    Lifespan of a Rifle?

funny thing I was thinking about a 'plains hunter' I met in the past won't say nothing about his gear or his persona name as I am not about to call anyone out on the chance they are on the forum, and it is bad form but that plains hunter musta robbed a bank to have his kit and gun

    Lifespan of a Rifle?

I think it is very plausible. What really bugs me when I see reenactors who have as a weapon of choice a top of the line for the time firearm that few people would have been able to afford. Yes the weapon is HC/PC, but come on now you are portraying a dude that was likely poor as dirt.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I picked up a gun, looked at it, considered shooting but it is still too dry and it was over 100 once the rains come back, and the land has cooled off I'll burn some powder, but for now....nope Got me a nifty little double barrel .36 pocket pistol that weighs 1.35 pounds. Only got a few shots...

    Converting to musket caps?

Only reason I haven't transitioned my guns to musket caps is the numerous tins of regular caps I have on hand. I got 1 gun that uses musket caps and I love those big caps! Much easier for my middle age hands to handle. Much easier to find a dropped musket cap than a percussion cap.

Why are shoulder stocks so popular on the replica 1860 Army and 3rd Model Dragoons?

I have a stock for my .44 Pieta and I love it. Helps my aim considerably. But it makes the pistol a bit bulky and I don't store it with the stock on. Good for the range but messes things up for a carry weapon. Now I did use it in a situation once and I loved how it felt as I advanced. (I...

Taking a flintlock rifle to South Africa

I don't know if he will answer but look up Matt85 here on the forums. He is a good man and a friend of mine. We only seem to touch bases every few years but those seem to be the best friends. He has gone on African Safari a number of times. He probably can answer a lot of questions and might...

    Kids under 12 hunting.

First time my pop took me hunting I was about 7 I think. I was just to watch and keep quiet. I got the watching down pat, but the keep quiet...not so much. We ended up eating hamburgers that year. We did get literally jumped by a deer. We were stalking some tracks that were pretty fresh and a...

    TC New Englander Barrel Value

I think it would be a decent deal. Find a rifled drop in barrel at .58 for any price...not like they are growing on trees. Sure you might find one cheaper, after a couple of months of looking, but the availability of such barrels is not common.

    1860 Pietta Army help

I just whack the thing out with a small rubber mallet. When a gun is newer I find you need a dowel and whack it with the mallet, but after it has been done a few times the mallet is all it takes. 1 good pop and it is out of there.

need help with 44 cal muzzleloaded pistol loading

I have seen a few and they are no big whoop. Made sometime in the 80's. Some engraving on the lock and side plate. They call it a Kentucky Pistol, but looks more like a Pennsylvania style to me but even that ain't completely right. Made by Pedersoli I think.
