    Walnut board

I see potential for 1 long stock and 1 short stock here, and a pistol stock. Or 4 pistol stocks. As it was free wood and it is walnut might as well do some sawing on it and see what it is like. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

    Exploding CVA barrel

.45 barrel, .44 ball even if you did bounce the ramrod when you set the rifle in your brace the ball could have come off the powder, which is the most likely I can imagine a proofing load would be a double powder load and 2 balls, balls patched, barrel should have been fine anyways that was...

    Exploding CVA barrel

well that sucks big time, lucky it didn't happen when you were holding it Why the loose ball? It might have rolled off the powder and caused this issue. Regardless you are out of a rifle. Salvage the lock, and whatever other parts survived. Might come in handy some day.

    Help identifying flintlock pistol

we would need to narrow it down better than we have already before a proper estimate could be made also a proper appraisal can only be made by a qualified person physically inspecting the fire arm if we can figure out when and where it was made it will get you in a ballpark Looks sorta like a...

    NEW T/C Hawkens!

While this is good news there is no way they are going to sell a new rifle for less than a grand. I think the 1200 guess is likely. But will they back their products with a similar guarantee as the old company did back in the day. Kind of concerned that they will go and make the new guns...

Small cannons from my step father. Any info would be greatly appreciated

I was expecting signal cannon. :( They need some love. Some simple restoration would make 'em look sharper. I doubt they have much value other than sentimental for you. If I am wrong and they do have value I apologize. They look like little desk cannons. A pop bottle next to them would help...

If you had only two choices.

I'd be more interested in the twist rate and the depth of the rifling than the groove count.

SOLD WTS: NIB .50 Investarms/Cabela’s Hawken Rifle

Is it one of the ones with the chrome lined barrel?

    Vest pocket pistol

A patch on the ball will keep the ball secure on the powder for sure for years with no worries. A loose ball with a wad over the top has to be fired now and isn't safe to carry. A patch will not do anything for accuracy on this little thing as the barrel is so short accuracy is not a thing. But...

Smoothbore powder loads for deer hunting question

You will find that you need less powder than a lot of folks will say. 50-70 grains will work splendid if you do your part. Maybe up to 80 but I highly doubt it will be needed. Certainly not 100 grains or more. No need to get magnumitis with these guns. For hunting with these guns, shot...

Isn't this interesting...a cap gun...I had no clue!

A gun that is only a good gun in a desert is not a good gun. :) I have a second model Maynard that uses a musket cap.

    Help Needed for Torn Patches

Gonna be the oddball on this one... How old is your patch material? Are they pre-lubed? I ask because these patches look like some I had back a few years ago after shooting. Older patches, while not pre-lubed they did sit in a place with variable humidity for 2 years. And when I prepped them...

    WANTED Blunderbuss

I have one and it is a pretty spiffy gun. For the price it is not a bad deal. While it has a percussion lock instead of a proper flintlock and it is a small for a blunderbuss it takes the edge off of the need for a blunderbuss and the low price mean you can sock away most of that money you have...
