    WITHDRAWN Maynard Model 2

EDIT TO ADD: "I am withdrawing this for a couple of weeks. I have some extras on the way for it and once I have them, have fired this carbine and taken better pictures I will be relisting this again." For your consideration 1 Maynard model 2 carbine. Serial number 8XXX. While I can not say for...

Did I make a mistake? or Is there a misconception about smoking molds?

When I started casting a few old timers told me to smoke my molds. So I do. Never thought to question it and my casts come out real nice. (after I get into the groove, the first handful are always terrible and go back into the pot)

Shipping a Ruger old army to Washington state?

Live in Washington. Every BP firearm I have bought through a dealer has come to my front door. Taylor, Midway, and whatever company I bought my blunderbuss from, I forget, all sent direct to me. So if the big guys can do it, why can't you?

    Pocket pistols

way out of my price range, I have production and second hand gun money, not antique presentation gun money I figure they might have had a place as an office gun for the wealthy man back then. But other than that they are mainly just for presentation. The box lock would prevent easy pocket...

I don't think Dad's Hawken is going to hunt

50-60 grains of powder is ample amount as for the fouling you can't seem to get....soak that barrel in some oil and let it sit a couple days then go at it might have to go with a stronger solvent and a painful amount of elbow grease

    To the older guys…

I figure they are part of my spouses retirement funds. I made sure she has a good idea of what they are worth. My gut tells me once I am gone that she will start to realize with me gone that learning to shoot at least the shotgun is a good plan.

    Black powder or Pyrodex

my main issue with pyrodex is how awful it smells when you start to clean it with soapy water BP fouling is pretty gross smelling also but the pyrodex is just the worst

    Is this lead flashing?

Just melt it down and scrape the slag off the top. That is really good lead. The old stuff. You won't need to do any fluxing. What isn't lead will be dirt and schumtz and just float to the top.

    Is this lead flashing?

a picture is worth a thousand words but I will go out on a limb and say if it came from a roof and you can mar the metal with a fingernail scratch....you got lead If it is really heavy compared to what your brain was expecting, that is another clue. Cut a hunk off and see if it melts at...

Ease and accuracy of shooting. 1851 Navy vs 1858 Remington. Thoughts?

I prefer the 1851 for most all things considered. However the Remington is real nice if you have spare cylinders on hand. I really like how easy it is to change cylinders and get back to shooting faster. but then it takes me like 10+ minutes to load up a revolver because I am slow :)

Buying a BP rifle on this site

I won't buy from someone that doesn't have any forum posts. If they are a member less than a year and they never post inside the forums and seem to have only joined to sell I won't risk it. I buy from engaged members who have invested their friendship into the forum. A fella who comes here on...

This years deer season is off to a good start

Very nice! That is a nice doe. Plenty of meat on her for a number of meals. :thumb: I am not hunting this year. Rules call for bucks only this year. I just don't like buck meat. Give me a fat doe or a fawn.

12 ga double barrel pistol? Is it Unmentionable?

it has an inline ignition using 209 primers....so yeah not for discussion and it is a front stuffer, so it will kick as hard or soft as you load it

Do you aim or point and shoot instinctively?

Depends on the situation. If I am casually hunting aim is everything. If I see a coyote running through my property in the vicinity of my chickens, I get an instant to get it right. And most the time I do. :)

Copper in a New Army 44?

what would keep the other bullets in the chambers after the first one is discharged?

Copper in a New Army 44?

California is a lost cause, if you can't get out I have no ideas. The no lead rule is just smart don't ya know. A single lead roundball could contaminate the entire state leaving the next 20 generation of children acting like they all ate lead paint chips. Every wild animal in the area will be...

My now broken Ethan Allen Shotgun

dowels and glue This is not beyond your skills if you take the time to think on it, get the right tools and go at the repair with resolve and care. Some well placed dowels and some glue and back it up with a rawhide wrap. Let it sit for a spell. Will be solid and good to go. Edit to add: you...
