    Need Help Identifying Rifle/Maker

You're a lucky pilgrim, griffiga! I have the ugly stepsister to that rifle, made by GRRW back in the early 70's. Plain straight-grain maple stock, percussion lock, but the same kind of cheek piece and pewter nosecap as yours. Mine's a .50 and her Douglas barrel shoots plumb center. My ol'...

Looking for JJ Henry rifle to purchase

KPL, If you're looking for an original JJ Henry rifle, the information already posted should help. If you're looking for an authentic replica of a JJ Henry original, I suggest you check out [email protected]. It's a small company in Nevada and that's their only business. J. Henry...

    Hello everybody from France

Welcome from South Texas, Carl. Both the ROA and the NMA are good choices. Good job on the case "repurposing" too.

Recovered Patches - Whats Going On Here

Jonboyb, I expect the opinions already expressed are correct ... your patches are a mite too small and that may be contributing to the tearing you see. Also correct that you've probably got a burr or a rough spot at the barrel crown. That said, if you still want a larger round ball mold, try...

What is the proper name for "possibles bag"?

To stumble back to the original question, Jeff ---- I call my hunting pouch a lot of things, some of them printable, especially when I can't find what I'm looking for in it. I s'pose you can call yours whatever you want.

    Dueling Pistol set...

Yes, duels were fought with swords too. The challenged party had his choice of weapons.

Do you prefer Real Black Powder or a BP substitute?.........Why?

Well, I guess I must be an "elitist" then. Is that the same thing as "Traditionalist?" I've just always used real black powder. Started out with original hardware and Dupont was $1 a pound ... It never occurred to me to switch over when that other stuff was available. For me, at least, it...

Antler and Pewter Bolster Belt Knife

You do good work, Tippit. Good work indeed, and there are precious few who do ... and are also skilled with a hammer and anvil. I've known a couple others and learned enough to know that I lack the talent, the physical ability, and the time to learn to do it well. Thanks for showing us this...

Antler and Pewter Bolster Belt Knife

Thankee kindly, Jeff. I'll check that out. Do you forge blades for other folks, or just for your own use?

Antler and Pewter Bolster Belt Knife

Very nice indeed. The antler looked weather-bleached before you stained it. I like the way the stain took. Did you grind the blade or forge it? I'd like some more info on how you poured the bolster. I've got a Dag blade on the bench and a hunk of bone that will be a handle for it, got the...

    Negativity towards Traditions guns

Folks, I've been doing this thing of ours for a considerable length of time now, and I am a traditionalist. That said, what it means to me is that I prefer traditional gear and traditional clothing and traditional methods. There's a clear difference - to me - between a preference and a...

    Negativity towards Traditions guns

Well said, Mac. I once asked a Traditions rep why their KY rifle had a two piece stock ... like the CVA ... and she grinned and said, "Well, it IS a replica ... !" Factory muzzleloaders attracted a big percentage of todays ML shooters to our sport. So did the special hunting seasons when they...

Will a claw hammer work as a makeshift "wedge puller?"

.......... wondering what size of tool loop to stitch onto my hunting pouch to carry one of them wedge whackers ...... Ye know, this child has a wee 4-pound sledge with a short handle. That'd probably do the trick!

Will a claw hammer work as a makeshift "wedge puller?"

That'd get her done, Hawkeye! Looks like you could pull railroad spikes with it too, `specially if you extended the handle for leverage.

Will a claw hammer work as a makeshift "wedge puller?"

I built the carriage for my small cannon out of hard Red Oak. There were scraps and trimmings left over, and I tossed all the chunks bigger'n my thumb into a "Someday" box on the theory that someday I might need them again. Took one of the small scraps and trimmed it down with a jackknife and...

    Possible bags

All of the gear previously mentioned, plus a small tin box that contains needles stuck into a cork, sinew, waxed linen thread, a small ball of leather whangs and a small chunk of beeswax. There's a bone-handled awl in it's own small pouch attached to my bag strap along with a tin cup, my short...

Does a RB travel with constant rotation, or accelerate?

Larry's original question was: Here is the question: Does the RB continue rotation of 1 turn every 4', or does it accelerate to a faster rotation? The answer is: NO.

    Powder horn by my hand

Just for reference, the first powder horn I ever built was made from an old black cow horn, with a pine base plug. It was cheap, crude, and nowhere as well finished as yours, Tennessee. Mine was uglier though. Still is.
