How often taking apart and cleaning the locks is needed.

You may be able to just clean the locks with aerosol brake cleaner, relube them and re-install them without completely disabling them. Even cleaning them in warm water with a bit of dish soap would work. Blow them dry with compressed air, lube and re-install. I don’t like to totally disassemble...

A blind man can assemble and finish a Kibler Woodsrunner

You, Rich and Josh inspire us all regardless our abilities and talents. I have a hard time cutting a 2x4 without making a mistake but I still enjoy trying.

Interesting long knife at auction. Relic or recreation?

I like it. If it goes for reasonable price it would be fun to have it. As we know reasonable is a relative term. For me that might be $50 for others it might be $100s.

Interesting long knife at auction. Relic or recreation?

I don’t believe it is a replica but a well used old butcher knife. I’m no expert so someone else here can maybe say more. Is that a sheath also in the bottom of the picture.

    Flintlock muzzleloaders will rule again

Depends on where you are at. Many parts of the Great Plains are flat and sparsely populated except for the numbers of livestock. You can see someone coming for miles unless they know the terrain.

French double-barrelled flintlock from the early 19th century

I agree with Larry. Simple, elegant pistol.

    Unusual two piece lock, flintlock

At least I paid less for the lock than the whole gun cost in 1947. If nothing else it makes an interesting conversation piece. I wonder if Dixie or Numerich etc. sold these locks at one time?

    Flintlock muzzleloaders will rule again

True on livestock maybe going quickly but remember, most farmers and ranchers are likely to shoot back when their livestock are threatened.

    Unusual two piece lock, flintlock

It almost looks like the hammer half was a percussion lock retrofitted with a flint hammer and a the other half added to provide a frizzen and pan.

    Unusual two piece lock, flintlock

Thanks Sam. I suspected it was for something like that. Now if it cleans up and sparks good what to do with it. I don’t think it has ever had a flint in it or been fired. It might work to put together a barn gun.

    Unusual two piece lock, flintlock

    Yes, a coil spring.

    Unusual two piece lock, flintlock

Yes SDsmif but much too large for a hand gun. It is also a somewhat crude reproduction. I got it cheap enough I couldn’t resist.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Stopped ata small gun shop late yesterday afternoon and found a couple of small item. Found 22 tubular magazine for a 1890 Winchester I’ve had laying around for years. Also found this unusual lock. It is two piece. I also picked up a brass butt plate for some future project and the guy threw...

    Unusual two piece lock, flintlock

I picked up this lock at a gun show yesterday. It doesn’t appear to have ever been used and the only marks on it are the numbers 19 on each half. The **** is one one piece and the frizzen is on another. It has a military feel to it due to the heavy nature. It is 7 3/4” long. Any know what it is?

New to me Pedersoli 12 guage

Great beginner’s overview of shooting a smoothie. Try Sparkitoff’s suggestion to get started and then read a number of the threads in this section of the forum if you want to start experimenting with finding the best load combinations.

    Gardening ..again

Roundup was mentioned a ways back. It is a contact herbicide and as far as I know won’t do a much to stop weeds or other plants from growing once it is on or in the soil. If you want to stop things from growing you need a pre emergent such as Preen. Just make sure you know what the product...

    Deciding on my 1st muzzleloader

Longer barrel will almost always pattern better unless you are shooting a ball or shooting shot at 10 feet. Obviously there are reasonable lengths for a barrel before it becomes too long and awkward.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

What ball of twine? 😜 Tom, I have pictures of it with grandsons somewhere but can’t find them. I lived in Hays for about 7 years about 30 years ago. We used drive through Stockton a lot and I hunted deer just south of there. Sethwyo, I used to travel western Kansas a lot and have been to...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I visited the Alcove Spring in northeastern Kansas today. It is located on the Oregon-California Trail near a major crossing of the Blue River. The crossing was called the Independence Crossing.
