    Opinions on unmarked .45 rifle

i will give an opinion and you know what free opinions are worth. very good craftsmanship through out. someone knew what he was doing, in the late 1970's or there abouts. that is when i first started using that checkering pattern. also, looking at the muzzle, there is no crown and no sign of...

I put liners in all the rifles i sell. my keepers are all 1/16th hole drilled far enough in front of the breach plug to clear if a liner is needed later due to wear. also i modified a right angle ratchet screw driver and cone the inside of the touch hole on those that are wanted with just a...

.58 Colonial is a heart breaker

that right there is why we always shot deer in the head back in the 50's and 60's! blow up a heart like that and momma would take a strip off with a willow switch. that is some definite medicine right there. biggest hole i have made in a critter was .54 going in. didn't check the going out size...

    picked up some revolvers

yeah, I used to do the same with the old phone. this one is 16 generations ahead of the old one. I am 32 generations behind the current one! I have both pistols stripped down and soaking in atf and diesel to mitigate the rust. it was weird, all the rust was internal and there it just wiped off...

    Unclogging a Lee bottom pour

welding torch wire cleaners work on one of mine. the other i opened up one time and a 4d nail held in forceps works well in that one. usually it is Sulphur and heavier metals that plug the orifice. when you get it flowing, drain it completely and really clean the pot.

    picked up some revolvers

you didn't need to post the disclaimer :D I can remember some time in the last three quarter century, being guilty of that. I had a 94 winchester in 32-40 lay on my various work benches for a total of 20 years before being restored. also the first Ruger standard pistol i ever took down. 55 years...

Cracked stock in front of lock

I can't think of a more heart sinking felling than discovering a crack or break in a stock. I have built stocks for unmentionables for 60 years or so and have experienced that feeling. a few times with a stock that the raw blank cost upwards of 3k. makes one walk about talking to their shoe laces!

Cracked stock in front of lock

check the inlet for a too tight fit once you get it glued or the probability of it cracking elsewhere is high. shave whisker thin amounts to create a smooth fit rather than a tight fit. seems counter intuitive but one doesn't want a hammer it in fit. I have to fight myself constantly about this...
