    Gunmakers Fair at Kempton

For future reference I figured to add this link to a related topic to keep them together, https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/places-to-eat-around-kempton-gun-fair.182873/ I would have never seen it in the section it is in, I just happened to notice it at the bottom of this page under...

    Adventures with Evaporust

Got it. This bore is so far gone the rifling was/is hopelessly anyway. I was thinking to derust and stop the process in hopes of having it bored smooth. The project got back-burnered, then an offer was made for the rest of the gun but suitable packaging has not been found (I feel terrible I...

???? I filled and let sit for a day (maybe day and a half) this old barrel, It was (is?) really, really, bad.... The Evaporust did not "soak through." Please explain....

    Adventures with Evaporust

I wouldl wait for something like is suggested here, before I write it off completely. Although I'm pretty sure it won't happen. Also @FlinterNick has some good points about limiting application. I.e, don't use it on springs, but rusty screws and barrels is probably fine.

Now I'm really, really, painfully envious. But also really glad you had such a good time.

    Gunmakers Fair at Kempton

I wish. It's been a dream for many years. Not in either budget, time or $$ I'd love to meet a few of the people from here and the ALR. Even though I don't build guns I'd think it fantastic to sit in on the seminar @dave_person is supposed to give. Please do take and post pics and give us a...

    Trouble getting new fowler clean

As long as your cleaning process neutralized the acids of the burnt black powder residue, I wouldn't worry to much about it. Lube with animal fat (with no salts or additives) like 100% mink oil and don't worry too much about it.

I am an *****. Frustrated to the point of wanting to quit.

Thank you for updating us. First and foremost. Take a break, no more lighter fluid and burning rag shenanigans. Clean out the threaded hole, fit a zirk and push the now hopeless load out with a grease gun. Next. No more substitute powders. Your 2f should work fine if the other problems with...

    Patch lube.

Not my Forte, but I'd think you can go with a wetter lube then. Or the "dry lube" method of ballistol and water that is then allowed to dry on the patch material. And of course, a whole bunch of folks will be along to advocate for just plain spit.

    Patch lube.

Are you looking for a hunting lube, a target lube, or one for both so you aren't shooting two different things? Your hot Georgia weather could make a difference in the efficacy of the various lube recipes that come up here. I'd probably just go with Track's mink oil or some type of well rendered...

    Something to do August 3rd & 4th

Thanks for this, without your post I would not have known about this. I'll check my calendar and I hope to attend. Maybe I'll show up in period outfit just to mess with folks 🤣

    We're Hiring!

I'm trying Mr. Kibler. I have a friend there in Ohio that is an excellent builder and incredible Horner. But, he is a few hours away from you and I can't convince him to move,,,, even though he hates his job and dreams of doing something in the history/muzzleloading field for a living. I'll...

    Patch lube.

What @Rifleman1776 said. Don't use any of those. As you said, the wood finish concoction hardened over time, doesn't sound like it will soften just from the warmth of your hands. What do you think the linseed oil (used in furniture polish and for wood protection by some, also sold as flaxseed...

    Wallace Gusler article

Is this magazine available digitally on an individual magazine basis? I don't want a subscription, and don't need the clutter of another paper magazine hanging around.

Training techniques to improve offhand shooting.

Okay, so you know how to shoot. Much,,, but not all,,, of what has been said can still help. Sometimes when we know how to do something we take little details for granted when we are trying to sort out a problem, go through the good advise here and analyze details of what you are doing in...

Training techniques to improve offhand shooting.

Please don't encourage people into the, "what seems to me,,," world when it come to practical pistol shooting. What works has been well proven out,,,, so has what doesn't,,,, although if someone wants to take the time, you've given them another one to tear apart. 🙄

Training techniques to improve offhand shooting.

Dry fire. With a caplock you'll just be firing the set trigger, not letting the hammer fall from full ****. Stop practicing on plates. Plates are going to give you positive feedback no matter where you hit them. If your goal is higher scores on paper targets, this is counterproductive...
