    A complaint about Tallpine’s blades

Our forum member here, Tallpine, (Dan, once you meet him) makes and sells a lot of blades here on this forum. Hawks too. @tallpine I have five of his blades, and one hawk. Pictured below is the patch knife he made when a friend contacted him to buy me a present. Looks like a nice knife...

    Quetion on loading smoothbore

The OP is asking (I think) whether the barrel will be damaged by the plated shot if he doesn’t use a cup of some type. My answer to that is No. Your barrel steel should be harder than any non-steel shot you will fire in it. Steel shot is another issue altogether.

    Kibler Ships SMR Fast!!

I had the privilege of spending a couple days socially getting to know Kyle Lamb, if that name rings a bell. He absolutely lite up when I mentioned my rock lock fetish. He bought a Kibler SMR and put it together and has literally fallen into the deep end of the pool. Was talking about his next...

    Kibler Ships SMR Fast!!

I hate to say it here, but it’s the truth… all the purse swinging negative comments of Mr Kibler and his products just smacks of Elitism. And a very defensive elitism at that. It’s childish and unbecoming.

Does anyone even do this anymore?

Always at least one before loading my rifles. Never done it on a revolver, that’s just stupid. You can look through the nipple and see that it’s clear. Edit to add on my flint guns I run a couple of alcohol soaked patches down the bore and let dry before loading before loading.

    Tent Decision help

I have a panther 7’ tall wedge, a 5’ tall wedge and 14x16 w/4’ walls. Next will be a small wall tent. 10’x something. My big wall tent is just too big to haul around.

    Belt Hooks On Pistols

And I can see that…but every pistol I have had or handled with a belt hook just flipped and flopped around hanging outside the belt with only the hook under the belt/sash

    Belt Hooks On Pistols

Since the hooks seem to be universally on the left side of the gun, I assume these were carried in the right hand side ofvthe shooters body? To be drawn with the left hand? The knife or sword was your “primary” sidearm in those days since it didn’t need to be reloaded. Just as was practiced by...

SOLD Bark tanned deer shooting bag

I have the last bag this man made from the same material and it is outstanding. I have a lot of bags. It’s the one that goes with the gun I hunt with the most. You won’t be disappointed.

    Skirmishers…need your advice

This is not my first rodeo. I occasionally teach folks to shoot. Just looking for some general data to get me in the ballpark on what these large slugs are doing trajectory wise. Brett at Paper Cartridges wrote me back that the Pritchett would be about 4” high at 50 with the other two a bit...

Thanks, that’s incredibly helpful! I intend to do just that. Anyone with actual ballistic information would be welcome to comment as well!

    Skirmishers…need your advice

Picked up a reproduction Cook carbine. Fired the Burton ball, Williams bullet and .550 Pritchett. All shot very, very accurately at 40 yards from a rest. With 60 grains of 3F the Williams was about 6” low, pretty much the same for the Burton with 50 grains of 3F. The Pritchett with 60 grns...

    Carolina Trade Gun/ Rob Miller

Beautiful gun! I have a 28” Wilson Chiefs gun in .62 and it’s amazing to shoot and to carry. More velocity is more accuracy in a smooth bore with round ball. Even in my short barrel 85 grains of 3F makes a huge difference in accuracy. With that load I’m shooting 3” groups at 50. Wouldn’t come...

    Follow through

I have a card somewhere with an M on it…picked up every one except D shooting matches, not classifiers. That said, one of the things that really helped me when I started shooting rock locks was not trying to control, or over control, the rifle. There is no split, no second shot, no follow up...
