    Homemade powder test

I was coming back here to do this lol it doesn't say we can't talk about homemade powder but we cannot discuss the process of making it or post links to such information. Since the only content here is discussing the actual useage of the powder I believe the op is In the clear.

    Vent liner

Holy crap man I never said you were stupid I said you didn't read carefully enough..... I definitely said the vent liner was too long and protrudes into the breech not the breech plug....

    Vent liner

This is exactly right I was just making sure there wasn't some magical hidden pitfall I was unaware of and didn't see..... Figured I've probably got access to several hundred years of collective experience here and it would be a shame not to use it.

    Broken ramrod

Glue it and wrap it real tight with something to cure. Then after it's all good and dry unwrap it and flex it some and see what you think. Only you will know if it feels to weak for your load. I would at least try it myself since it would only cost 10 cents in glue and some time. Might wrap it...

    Vent liner

Built a lot of guns not to be qualified...... I think you are confused on what I'm saying. The vent liner itself protrudes into the bore. My ram rod hits the vent liner itself and if I take it out it goes all the way to the breech face. Perhaps one should read a little more closely before they...

    Coning a smoothbore?

I shoot a loose enough combo in my .58 I can easily thumb start it. Tighter doesn't shoot any better so I figured why bother?

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Changed out a set of sites cause the front blade was too short and I didn't like the rear anyways..... Now it's got a non adjustable semi buckhorn and a brass front blade. Just got to burn some powder and dial it in now.

    Vent liner

I can take it right out I was just wondering about removing the section that sticks into the barrel. It's not like it's adding anything strength wise or anything.
  9. CapPopper

    Vent liner

It sure makes removing a dry ball easier don't have to poke so much through the flash hole .... Other than that some of them are coned and allow a small part of the charge to be closer to the prime..... Outside of being a repair though I couldn't give you a real reason..... The pedersoli came...

    Broken ramrod

Depends on how tight the load is.... I couldn't say wether it would be stronger or not using wood glue but I've glued stocks together at the wrist with acraglas and never had a failure..... Join really is stronger than the wood like that. I would do it with my .58 but it shoots a .010 patch as...

    Vent liner

So just cause I'm thinking about it right now..... I've got a .32 cal pedersoli Kentucky I built and the vent liner protrudes into the breech. So I have to remove it to clean the gun. Is this normal? Would I be in the wrong to find a way to blue the protruding part and then file or cut it down...

    What are your excuses please.

As long as I can actually afford it and clean the house real good mine doesn't complain much

    .58 Caliber hunting load advice

I understand that but I wouldn't think you'd have to go that much smaller when a stout .58 charge is 110-120 grs ffg. I'm only shooting 90 in mine and then mostly just to flatten the trajectory a little

    FFFg in 50 Cal Hawkin?

fffg is fine in about anything. You need a little less for the same velocity. I was shooting some in my .58 the other day just to see how it hit. Put one in the same whole the 90grs of ffg was so that's all I needed to know

    .58 Caliber hunting load advice

300 gr cast bullet out of a 45 long Colt at 850-900 fps is plenty for deer and many larger animals I vote for its fine. Only question is why such a small charge?

Uneventful so far (or the story of the plastic cow)

So it's Ohio's firearms season and so far all I've done is get rained on and take pictures...... 3 days and I haven't seen a single deer but they tell us numbers are way up. Maybe this evening will go better I've only got one more day then back to work Who knew you could get a cows knee from a...

    Ballistol Patch Lube

Usually 7 parts water to 1 part ballistol but you may need to at with it. Lube can be to slick so mixing it with water puts less on patch and the drying part ensures every patch is exactly the same. Just make sure to lay your patching out flat to dry.
