Less than 100% pure lead for round balls and conicals ?

Loading modern guns I've never had a problem with hard cast bullets being to hard for light low pressure loads so I cannot imagine it would harm muzzleloader performance too much. However I can see it becoming a right pain to load hard stuff. I would think also with real hard balls patch...

How do you clean your rifled barrel?

Clean it like your smoothbore. I don't treat mine any differently. Don't even have to plug the vent and soak if you don't want to. I've done that and if I'm somewhere without easy access to water I'll just swab with ballistol mixed like the can says until patches are clean (takes a few more...

    Shooting Conicals

Water works good. Since you are using something that requires a decent amount of lube I would add a little bit of dawn. I know water seems odd but everything corrosive in black and the substitutes is water soluble and won't clean very well without some amount of water. I've taken to using...

    Black Squirrels

Bunch in Northern Ohio apparently. I see people posting pictures of them all the time. Haven't seen any down this way though. There did used to be a white one over by an elementary school in town though.

Does this look right? Molten lead

If you're going to put the mold in the lead you got to let it float till everything runs off. should happen even if the mold happens to open. If not it's a huge pain especially with minie molds that have the centering base. Ask me how I know lol

    Wet aging game meat

I've had real good luck aging boned meat in a mini fridge. Got to keep it in a bag or some such thing so it doesn't dry out. Cold enough it almost has ice crystals forming in it for 2-3 weeks. Usually pull the bags through the bars in a few places and poke holes in them so the blood will drain...

58 Kibler colonial smoothbore lets see them

just got mine shooting wasn't a great day with a poor rest and the light changing constantly..... Still had 1.5" or so groups at 25 yards. Front sight will most likely need filed. Only tried 80grs ffg goex and 2 different patches with a .562 ball. Haven't been on here in a few since I seem to...

    Kit question

I sanded mine. It needed cleaned up some anyways. I experimented with bluing it. Used Birchwood Casey super blue but instead of actually following directions I wiped the whole thing down real good with the blue then dried it wiped it off with alcohol and coated it in olive oil then let it sit in...

    .32 shooters

I can get accuracy as long as I can get it loaded. Which is about 2 shots lol I just swab with alcohol and I can shoot forever with accuracy. Could probably go longer if I changed my lube but it will put 5 balls in one hole at 25 and under an inch at 50 so I wasn't going to mess with success.

    Hey from Ohio, for now....

    Muzzleloader wont fire.

Is the powder actually making it to the drum? Is the spark making it through the flash channel? Just cause you could get contact with the brush doesn't mean there isn't something in the way..... I would pour powder turn the gun drum down and give it a couple bumps with my palm and then ram the...

Ordered a Kibler Southern Mountain Rifle Today!

Im on 8weeks for my .58 smoothbore colonial. Starting to get antsy lol. I've got a mold and about 100 weighed balls cast and wads and stuff for shot. Still need to buy shot then all I need is the gun. It's been murder waiting lol

    How much powder?

75-80 would be a good place to start. You're probably not going to be able to shoot over 100-125 yards with iron sights anyways so that will be plenty of powder. Really the most accurate load will be best. My .50 really likes a 360 minie and 100grs of 2f. But the recoil in a 5.5 pound gun is...

Seemed like a good idea back in the summer.

Lol yeah snow does that. They are select cutting the property next to day dad and the guys doing it painted or 200 yard steel Target bright pink. Same color they were marking the trees they were going to cut. Me and dad got a laugh out of it.

    Field Cleaning

Shot my gun during primitive this year on the first day and reloaded. Emptied it that night and spit patched the bore clean followed by a dry patch one patch of barricade and another dry patch patch And reloaded. Didn't clean the patent breach or the lock at all and never had any rust. Probably...

    .32 load help

I just wipe I can't even get the third shot loaded with the wooden rod on the gun without wiping. If I wipe it'll drop them one after another in the same hole at 25 and if I don't I can't hit anything with it.

    .58/24 buckshot

Actually yes once I figured out what to do with the numbers. Looks like it's a constant regardless of what the ball size is and also accurately corresponds to the diagram you posted. So as long as the bore on a smootbore kibler .58 actually measures .58 it looks like #4 buck will fit 4 in a...

    .32 cal flintlock groups

The square is a little under one inch and the left to right is where the sun position was changing. If I'd had the forethought to handle the sun issue ahead of time all 5 would've been in the same spot as the three touching. Group at 25 yards pedersoli Kentucky with .311 Lee ball cotton duck...
