    how much powder

Use 100gr of ffg in my traditions .50 with a 360 gr minie. Super accurate but it kills on both ends..... 80 shoots almost as good and I can shoot it all day comfortably. Gun only weighs like 5.5 pounds though.

    .58/24 buckshot

Thats how the diagram looks..... I reckon I can always start a card and see if .243 bullets will sit in there in a quantity of 4. Should be close enough to know before I start spending money. Though I have been wondering since ranges will probably be under 30 (unlike what they do with modern...

    .58/24 buckshot

I believe so. I came out with #4 being over .6 across though.... My math can most certainly be wrong though. Is that a chart someone made or some program? And is this saying that #4 is .517 across or .579? I won't know exact bore diameter until I actually have the gun.

    Thats a great source :ThankYou:

    .58/24 buckshot

No but I can do the math on 4 in a layer lol 3 would be fine but I'm not sure on that math. The coyotes here get pretty big 50-60 pounds is not unusual. I also feel like 2 in a layer may not perform as good as it could.

    .58/24 buckshot

Doing some math I don't believe I can stack 4 #4 buck in a layer (come out to right at .600 across) kind of at a loss to figure up what size for three in a layer and since I couldn't find any info using the search I thought I'd ask.... What is the optimal size buckshot for the .58?will...

Stonewall creek outfitters usually has flints you'll have to call

    Ramrod Rigs and Carriage

Idk about a name but if you're dealing with a long gun carrying a 44" rod outside the ram rod channel is just not practical lol even a 36" rod is quite cumbersome which is the only reason I use the wooden rod with my .32 at all ever.

Butt plates are tough for me!

Did a brass one on my .50 last night. It's one of those new type ones with a plastic butt plate and the barrel has a sling stud that's supposed to hold it in. It's a hawken noveau I guess lol not a pretty gun and I shortened it about 1.5" last week so while I was at it I figured I'd put the...

Want to get into Muzzleloading and have a lot of questions so I figured I would post in this forum.

Both of those will do anything you want anywhere you want or at least are likely to do it. For versatility 12 and 16 gauge are hard to beat. The only place you would ever be at a disadvantage to a rifle would be out past 70-80 yards. If you are not going to be shooting that far then the...

Not really all the farther you can really shoot irons...... Can always use a lighter charge provided poi and accuracy are still there. Which is easier to accomplish with a faster twist like the 1:48. Even my little .32 will chop them in half on a bad shot with the most accurate load so really...

Want to get into Muzzleloading and have a lot of questions so I figured I would post in this forum.

Ive got a .58 kibler smootbore coming soon hopefully. I find that 100 yards is a long way with iron sights with my 50 and sure wouldn't shoot farther the way it's set up. Figure if I can play around and get 60-70 yard potential out of a smoothbore it will be more than enough. As far as caliber...

Want to get into Muzzleloading and have a lot of questions so I figured I would post in this forum.

Pedersoli Kentucky mine is a .32 but they have it in .45 and .50 if my target was going to be deer sized animals and coyotes I would opt for the .50 but if you are wanting to shoot squirrels and rabbits and such as well I would lean towards .45 in a rifle. The .50 will do it but the .45 is...

Want to get into Muzzleloading and have a lot of questions so I figured I would post in this forum.

Really depends on the kit the pedersoli kits can be shot right out of the box..... They come completely assembled and really just need some polishing of the barrel and some type of finish and then some sanding on the stock and finishing I think I only have 4 hours max in mine. I wasn't worried...

    Sprue cut: Facing which way?

Still waiting on my smoothbore and I could see where there's no reason for a smoothbore ball to be quite that tight but in my .32 the short starter definitely leaves an imprint on the ball and removes the sprue..... Not sure it's better than the sprue but it seems to do 1/4 inch groups at 25 if...

    Sprue cut: Facing which way?

If it's up and centered at least you know it's centered..... Not sure it matters much but seating the ball usually gets rid of most of the sprue for me anyways

    Any coyote hunters?

I would think it would be good to 75 with a .32 fairly easy if you can shoot it well and if think a smoothbore would be as good as any modern shotgun just with less shots..... I'm going to use both after deer season is out (once I get my .58 kibler smootbore) dad has been amped up to shoot some...

    .32 cal muzzy for turkey

Hardest part of shooting any bird with a rifle (if you want to eat it) is the fact the head never stops moving. I suggest most accurate load and aim for the base of the neck just below where the feathers start...... Break the spine or major arteries and they are out and that area has the least...

    Keeping your powder dry

I would think if your prime was too damp to put back into the primer it would likely be too damp to flash when the Sparks hit it...... If you're comfortable with it's properties for ignition when you put it back I'd say don't worry about it much..... That said if I was worried about running out...
