    Barely

On a slightly more positive note I just finished that hunting bag today..... Its the first one I've ever made and it went on a successful hunt. Maybe there's some luck in those stitches.

    Barely

Yup ross county here. Just got to clean the rifle now got started but had to do something else. Pretty sure it was a bad shot cause I had a slight (very very slight) hangfire..... I remember the cap popping and usually there is not enough separation between the cap and it firing to even notice...

    Barely

Got one last 10 mins of light last day of primitive and barely hit him...... Not a shot to write home about but he dropped and never got up. Should be mighty tasty it's just a shame I hit the strap.....

    Opinion on Hawken kits

Only place I've seen any traditions kits in stock is dixie gun works and they only had flintlock kits.

    Pedersoli kentucky rifle

So after much indecision on my part I ordered a pedersoli kentucky rifle kit in .32 cal. It will be my first flintlock and while I've never even held one I've read so much about them I can't foresee having much issue..... Still a few things I need to get but as it will be a while before it's...

    Ramrod tip extending past muzzle

Unless it's real close to the barrel it shouldn't matter...... Mine is a little long cause the way the rifle is built if it doesn't stick out and you drop it in the barrel you have to dump it out cause the roof channel is exactly the same length as the muzzle to beech plug...... So it's a little...

    What is your hunting rifle?

Offside right against the shoulder angling back.... Hit both lungs minie was under skin on side toward the camera expanded to about the size of a quarter which is probably why it didn't exit..... Thought she was closer was about 140 yards when I ranged it afterwards. Shoot another little doe...

    What is your hunting rifle?

Traditions fox river fifty which is unfortunately the only "traditional" muzzleloader I own..... Trying to rectify that but my wallet disagrees..... 100grs pyrodex (ew..... All I can get cause my wallet disagrees with online prices) and a lee 360 minnie and it'll punch one big hole at 50 yards...

Be safe when shooting in New England

Everything we got today already melted....... Don't get good snows here very often .... I'd rather it snowed than rained all day that's for sure

    Starting Loads

Flat is good for cast bullets. Larger meplats leave larger wound channels. That's The while idea behind hard cast bullets in those hand guns we don't talk about...... A heavy for caliber bullet with a sharp flat nose (usually to hard to expand in the unmentionables) will drive deep and straight...

    Minie ball fill out

I'm going to have to figure something out as far as temp cause I only have one heat lol I'll have to pay with that and see if I can either find a way to shed some heat or I may have to try the camp stove
  16. CapPopper

    High shoulder shot .50 cal

If you can break both front shoulders they won't go anywhere at all and you usually end up shredding the major vessels located in that area..... Deer die quick they just do it on the ground in front of you...... Personally I don't feel I get much off the shoulders and even quartering away try to...

    Minie ball fill out

Would be nice but I simply cannot afford that right now..... Kids have to eat and the wife sure is partial to having running water..... I can overheat all my other molds with a ladle so I don't see how that's really the issue I really do think it's that my ladle is too small...... If I just try...

    Minie ball fill out

Pot gets so hot I can't skim the oxide off the surface as fast as it forms (probably not helping) and I can get 20 pounds of lead in the pot I use but more lead and a bigger ladle would help I'm sure...... But I have so much dross (the lead is clean that's not the problem) that I have trouble...

    Minie ball fill out

I'm using a hot plate and iron small iron skillet but I wired the hot plate to run full tilt cause it wasn't getting hot enough when it cycled before..... I need a real lead pot but it's going to be a while before I can get one
  20. CapPopper

    Starting Loads

100 grs of ffg and a 360 minie will put 3 shots in one hole at 50 yards out of my rifle and really puts the whuppin on the deer..... I just have a kfc container (red lid clear plastic) I carry with lube in it (50/50 beeswax/crisco) just scrape the bullet across the surface on a few sides and...
