Small Gap .23MM Breech to stock

Whatever is binding your lock bolt inside needs to be relieved. Do that and it likely won't "pull" the barrel forward. I want zero gap on my tang to wood fit, and you surely don't want just a lock bolt taking recoil.

    gloss finish ?

The same technique is needed either way. A soft bristled tooth brush, thinned finish, and judicious care to avoid filling the grooves with finish. But, you need the checkering finished also, and a well done checkering job is never "glossy" in the checkering pattern, and absolutely never filled...

    Underlug hole elongation...

Rock your drill bit back and forth to elongate the hole on the outside, then clean up the little bit of metal on the inside with an appropriate file. Longitudinal movement of wood is minimal. All you need is enough space fore and aft of the pin to prevent any binding.

    gloss finish ?

Just a note, BDL's are back in production with the same high gloss finish, so there's no more "used to have". Not my thing on any traditional muzzleloader but I second the use of Tru-Oil and tons of patience.

CCI Caps - CCI reply regarding availability

There have been press releases saying manufacturers have switched to war time production with very minimal civilian product being made. That can work two ways. A manufacturer can produce for government contracts and be physically or logistically limited to produce anything for the civilian...

CCI Caps - CCI reply regarding availability

And an observation about the answer to that real question. I think that those who are and do, live in a bubble and do not realize how small that bubble is. Traditional muzzleloading just isn't what it used to be. Sad, but true. We are last of a dying breed.

    How many years Muzzleloading experience?

When I started there were no inlines. The T/C Hawken and Renegade were considered top shelf production rifles, and CVA was the economical approach if you were short on money. Bought many a T/C off the used rack at the gun store. The only CVA I've ever owned was a pistol kit that I was given and...

    Annealing Brass question

Without going down a metallurgical rabbit hole separating zinc from brass takes a bit more metalurigical magic than heating a piece of brass up enough to achieve crystalline restructure, which occurs between 700 and 800 degrees. Color is a VERY poor method of judgement as well. Welding temp...

    Annealing Brass question

    Brass doesn't.

    Bending a hammer

Only if you don't know what you're doing, and if you don't know what you're doing, why are you doing it?

    Bending a hammer

Have you priced an oxy/acet torch set and tanks? Even a small set? That's main reason most don't have one. I do, and I have a weed burner, and I have a stack of bricks. I do a lot of projects aside from being a professional welder/fabricator for a living. So relax, it was a mere suggestion for...

    Bending a hammer

How so? That's one quick project in the picture. Stacking bricks around a weed burner takes about 30 seconds. Gets hot fast. What's overkill about quick and fast. Maybe you prefer slower and harder. Ok then.....

    Contaminated lead?

Definitely shotgun shot contains antimony. But as you can cypher from this chart, which isn't gospel but it's righteous enough, you have to get way beyond average range scrap to find much antimony. Unless your range scrap is mostly wheel weight cast or harder of course. I've tested enough...

    Contaminated lead?

Saying where you got your lead from will help out answering your question. Research testing lead hardness with artist pencils, available from office supply places or craft stores. That's the cheapest way possible to get a fairly accurate measurement and a lot of people do that. The next...

    My Mail Lady.....

My son brought some cash to me and had me order another 50 pounds. Shipped out this morning. This time though I think I'll have them hold it in town and I'll be by to pick it up. Meanwhile, over the weekend, my buddy was given some pretty old reloading stuff. Two totes full. Gave me all the...

    Bending a hammer

A Propane weed burner and some stacked up firebrick make a pretty decent quickie forge.

    Thanks USPS

For me it's a matter of principle. I pay them to provide a service. That service is getting my package in my hands at the time they say it will be. If I want it faster than normal then I must pay even more for the service. When they fail at their job by delivering a package late, then it's...

    Thanks USPS

Regarding the USPS..... How many pieces of junk mail do you get daily, or weekly? Ever get a look inside your mail person's vehicle? In the passenger seat and floorboard and within reach in the back seat are totes full of junk mail flyers. When she/he stops at your box the first thing they do...

    Thanks USPS

FedEx just did that to me. Package left Illinois through Chicago via "FedEx Express" (shipper picked shipping method). It went immediately to an obscure location 20 miles from my house on Friday, with a scheduled delivery of Saturday, yesterday. Ok, that's fine. I happen to call my son who...
