    Oil finish on a stock.....

    I've done quite a few stocks in my day. I use boiled linseed oil on walnut after sanding to 400 grit. I rub it in every day and wipe it off with paper towels after a half hour. Keep applying until it no longer absorbs. Then the once a week thing until it looks good. On maple or beech I use...

    Modifying TC lock

    Like Crows-R-US said...I did it to a T/C lock by using a grinding attachment on a dremel. It was on a Pennsylvania Hunter. Switched back and forth, flint to percussion.

    The two Hawken rifles are early models, probably from the late '70s or early '80s. You can tell by the fluted rear sights. The later ones had a flat sided rear sight.

    Rottenstone works great with an oil but be careful. You can actually cut through the finish.

    I've used denim for use as an over powder wad for hunting. It kept the powder from getting tainted with the patch lube so you could keep the gun loaded during hunting season. Seemed to work well.
