    Cva hawken question

I measured my barrel and it’s 1”, so I ordered a corresponding hooked breech tang. There was a 15/16 option as well. Now I need a 50 caliber cleaning jag.. 🙄 I thought I had one, I’ve got a 62, 54, 45 and a 40 cleaning jag.. no 50s. Luckily it’s very common and Wally world carries these.

    Cva hawken question

I’m thinking I may have the wrong tang, I may have the button tang and I need the hooked tang

    Cva hawken question

I picked this CVA up at the gunshow, the barrel was out of the stock, but other than that complete. Anyhow, can someone tell me is the breech in far enough? Or is the barrel tang for the hooked breech the wrong one? My barrel doesn’t fit in the stock. It will if I pull the tang out. So then I...

    Bag/horn combo

Here’s mine, the bag in the top middle I got from a member here, thanks Flanders! The bottom left I made, bottom right I got from from a member on the ALR site, Corey Joe Stewart. I made the bottom horns left and right, top middle I bought and refurbished to my liking.

    .45 Caliber: Deer?

I’d also ad that there isn’t any ONE particular hunting scenerio that’s exactly the same, maybe close, but not truly replicated. I’ve lost count of how many deer I’ve taken with bow and arrow in my life, I’ve had them jump up and run, I’ve had them drop in thier tracks, then I’ve also had them...

    .45 Caliber: Deer?

That’s true, however I’ve shot deer before, with my 54 roundball, that have ran 100-150 yards before falling over. It was a text book double lung/ heart shot if I wouldn’t have watched that deer run I may have lost him. The blood trail was good enough I found him.

    .45 Caliber: Deer?

I would never discourage anyone from hunting, however I would encourage them to practice. Honestly some people lack the patience, the instant gratification crowd are sometimes difficult to teach.

    .45 Caliber: Deer?

What happens if you didn’t want the animal to run too far? I do both, shoulder and heart lung shots. If I don’t want it to run.. it’s a shoulder shot, also called an “ anchoring shot” if I don’t mind it running and have plenty of property to blood trail I’ll do the heart lung shot and blood...

    .45 Caliber: Deer?

Actually people that arnt very good shots should practice to get good, building confidence for that all important shot. I’ve never seen an individual that was a “ bad” shot. Just people that needed coaching and practice.

    .45 Caliber: Deer?

You want the exit hole if possible for blood trailing. When i bow hunt, a complete pass through can mean the difference between finding the animal and losing the animal. Deer are extremely strong animals and can run for quite a long time on an adrenalin rush before expiring. I hunt in extremely...

    .45 Caliber: Deer?

Yes, but it’s up to him to practice, an ethical hunter will know the limits of the hunting implement being used. Whether that’s a conical or roundball doesn’t matter, he must know how the implement will react when he pulls the trigger or releases the arrow into flight. He has to know its...

Those are most excellent! You have inspired me as well!

    .45 Caliber: Deer?

I agree with that whole statement. However, it’s up to any newcomer to learn thier firearm and to keep the shots within its limited range. I’m an avid bow hunter, so I keep my shots as close as possible, I do the same when I’m hunting with my BP rifle. The longest shot I’ve ever taken was around...

    .45 Caliber: Deer?

Yes, I’ve killed many deer with my old 45 caliber. Shot placement is the key, get to know that rifle and get really good with it and know its limits. But the short answer is for sure yes.

Adding a rear sight to my fowling piece.

So how deep should a dovetail be on a smooth bore?

Adding a rear sight to my fowling piece.

I guess I line up both sights, then put both sights on my target.. either covering it or 6 o clock hold, that’s how I’ve always been able to taget shoot and hunt.
