Anyone else's gun like a very tight load ?

Tenngun I think your correct, a liquid based patch lube worked best for me when I was traveling & competing with muzzleloaders in different climates. Several year back I also relocated from New Mexico & did a 3 year stint in hills of Arkansas shooting at Berryville & local shoots & experienced...

    You call that a rifle.

Mr. oldwood, brandy on a cold hunt sounds mighty fine ! A few years back while sitting around the campfire with friends on a ML hunt & dropped a treed squirrel with my .70 Jaeger loaded with about 30 gr. 2f. Result was a slightly bruised squirrel with no meat loss.. 😂

Anyone else's gun like a very tight load ?

All custom & original pistols & rifles I've shot in competition only required a swipe with a damp patch after 3-5 matches if the proper PRB combo was used with lubed patches. Measuring the bore size rifling depth with calipers will also help you formulate a PRB combo that loads without...

1864-produced Remington 1858 New Model Army: trigger weight should be???

I also shoot original C&B Colts & Remingtons. The stock trigger pull on my orig 58 Remington NMA revolvers do vary some at about 5-6 lbs & same on an unfired example I have. I personally have no issues lightening the trigger pulls on ones I compete with. Typically the full **** notch on the...

    Help Needed for Torn Patches

I never did see photo of the crown, The remedy I suggested has been used to successfully polish rough crowns & condition bores on well over a hundred new & original bores that were crusty from decades of no care.

Need advise!!! Colt 1860 serial #s fake or legit

Getting bore photo from breech of my unfired orig 58 Remington was a bit above my Ansel talents without a pipe wrench but did get a better bore photo from the muzzle. :) Mike's Colt photos did much better showing lack of twist at the breech.

    Help Needed for Torn Patches

Easy crown method, Purchase a drawer pull screw at the hardware store, these have wood screw threads on one end & machine threads on the other end. Screw the wood screw end into an oversize lead ball & attach other end in a hand drill. Attach small piece of abrasive cloth to the ball with small...

WANTED Jaeger… the real deal or built

Forgot to include photo of the unique lock design. Note; Instead of having a main & sear spring, the main spring serves both.

WANTED Jaeger… the real deal or built

Brian just so happens that I also favor Danish workmanship & have a very ornate high grade Danish percussion target pistol I would consider selling. I'm including some photos & info. This fully engraved pistol including the barrel is signed by maker Delcomy in Kiobenhavn & dates between 1841 &...

    Help Needed for Torn Patches

Simple Fix; Smart move to post photos of your patches :thumb: Photos of your shredded patches indicate two possible issues. Being that your getting tight groups, I suspect the edges of rifling in your bore has sharp burrs that are cutting the patches. *If it were my rifle, first step would be...

Need advise!!! Colt 1860 serial #s fake or legit

I'll be peddling this 58 Remington soon so will try to take & post some better quality photos but doubt they will be Ansel Adams grade photos. 😂

    You call that a rifle.

I always prefered collecting & shooting bigger bore European & English guns because they were very accurate & didn't require humongous powder charges. Their round ball guns typically have faster twist rifling averaging one-turn in length of the barrel & rifling averages .014-.018 deep to firmly...

Do You Actually Use Your Expensive Custom Guns or Keep Them as Safe Queens?

TrailWalker I also live & hunted in Idaho's steep mountains. My short light weight big bore Jeager with a flip-up rear sight for longer shots made hunting much more enjoyable !

Do You Actually Use Your Expensive Custom Guns or Keep Them as Safe Queens?

Nice rifle !!! The only high end guns I don't shoot are originals in mint to near mint condition, those get sold to collectors who just display their collection. If it's a nice custom gun like your rifle, it gets well used but never abused. I've hunted & competed with some of my rifles &...

Need advise!!! Colt 1860 serial #s fake or legit

This is bore photo of an original unfired 1858 Remington NMA, not the best quality photo but perhaps my description will help. Both Colt & Remington used progressive twist rifling. Twist in the rifling where it meets the cylinder is straight allowing the ball or slug to seat & stabilize before...
