Who made this Jordan 1742 Long Land, and where could I find a barrel?

It would sell as a partial parts set. Just an option.

    Its Time For A Change

Nice job. It’s not easy fitting tangs and underlugs and all to allow multiple barrels to fit the inlets. Well done!

My new Rev War militia musket (pics)

It’s cool that you got the custom gun you want. You added features that “existed” but were not known on militia muskets in general, or composite fowlers either. No need to try to force historical accuracy on the final product. You’ve got a great looking gun with the features you want. Enjoy...

Who made this Jordan 1742 Long Land, and where could I find a barrel?

The simplest solution is to take the parts you have, get a suitable barrel for an early Bess, and restock it.

What is my new dog lock musket, or doglock musket, supposed to be? And who made it?

I’d say just enjoy and shoot your gun. If I was seriously interested in a doglock from a specific period, I wouldn’t buy a doglock and see if it fits. No offense intended - I’d research original guns of the period. I’d not look at anyone’s reproduction. I’d be looking at books, auction...

What is my new dog lock musket, or doglock musket, supposed to be? And who made it?

Nick could say. I’m just dipping my toe into the early era. Not immersed yet.

What is my new dog lock musket, or doglock musket, supposed to be? And who made it?

Some dogs have a thingy that is a little rod projecting inwards. It comes to rest on the lock plate when flopping back. It requires wood removal around the lock panel. If I was going to rely on a long rear lock bolt to stop the dog from flopping back I’d turn the projecting end smooth and...

    Doglock lock problems...

Heavy trigger pulls are dependent on the sear spring, the angle of the full **** notch, and the position of the pivot pin for the trigger. Is it very hard to release the sear when the lock is in your hand? If so that likely means the issue is sear spring or full **** notch angle, or both...

What is my new dog lock musket, or doglock musket, supposed to be? And who made it?

Bingo. That explains the lock to me. I was puzzling on it. The gun is someone’s creation of a “could have been” early gun. Doglocks are not easy to source and this maker got creative. Let’s see the side plate.

    Doglock lock problems...

Smooth it. Normally the trigger should keep the sear nose lifted off the tumbler belly. Do you have a very light trigger pull?

Skill - barrel making - where to learn

Deep hole drilling a barrel requires specialized equipment and injecting cutting oil as it cuts. Not your basic lathe or drill press.

Some people like to be different, I guess.

Not made by Ketland. Probably 1850s or 60s.

    Need help tuning lock

There are several ways to skin a cat. Adjusting the toe may work but I always worry about making it pointed resulting in scarring the spring arm. I adjust the toe when it won’t flip open. My first choice for a rebounding frizzen is to make it harder to rebound. I’d heat the upper arm to almost...

    Need help tuning lock

What’s the planned solution? Are you going to modify the frizzen spring? Reduce the mainspring?
