Identification of 1863 Zouaves - New to me

There is a web page with Italian maker and proof marks. I'm pretty sure the one on the right is for Gardone. Here's some references- http://acwsa.org/Documents/MBPProofmarks.pdf...

    Contaminated lead?

You are correct and I've seen many black powder shooters melt down shot and wonder why the bullets are soooo hard. The easy way to determine softness is to use a set of Stadler artist pencils. They are varying hardness and depending on which pencil will scratch the lead, will yield a pretty...

Can you get 3 aimed shots a minute?

While this discussion is about muzzleloaders, in N-SSA competition, we shoot Civil War era arms and there's a Carbine class. In it are musketoons, Smiths, Sharps, etc. With a Sharps, 3 shots a minute and you're seriously dragging your feet. 3 shots a minute with a musketoon is not that hard but...

Can you get 3 aimed shots a minute?

There's also a recruit skirmish being held in PA. I'm thinking the date is in April

Can you get 3 aimed shots a minute?

There's no other shooting sport like it. While I support the NMLRA, paper punching is seriously boring. Nothing quite like being on the line with seven team members busting targets as fast as you can. Wiping between shots need not apply.

    Lemme hear your muzzleloading sayings.

In the N-SSA- You can't miss fast enough to hit anything

Can you get 3 aimed shots a minute?

And thank to Captain Minie, we don't have to do the wiping thing.

Can you get 3 aimed shots a minute?

You'd have a coronary at a N-SSA match. Yeah, the barrels get pretty hot especially on a summer day.

Can you get 3 aimed shots a minute?

Guys, the 3 shots a minute thing is military. Try it from your bag with patch round ball and it's a shortcut to a dry ball or broken rammer. Even the Colonial Militia, armed with their personal guns didn't try to reach this rate of fire. To do it, you must have premeasured cartridges, a...

Can you get 3 aimed shots a minute?

It's absolutely doable but it does take practice 2 minutes, rapid fire, 6 shots, 1 miss at 50yds. Target score of 8. 3 basic hits=3 1 on card=2 1 on bicycle=3. I got in a hurry on the last shot and pulled it right of target.

I trust pin gauges for this measurement.

Need help with 1858 Enfield clone.

The bullets from lodgewood are made by a N-SSA member who understands what it takes for a good minie. The other vendors might be good on traditional round ball but I've found them lacking on minies and military stuff from the Civil War.

Need help with 1858 Enfield clone.

The best way to actually measure the bore is with a pin gauge. You don't need the entire set, just a range of sizes relevant to musket calibers or you could take it to your local machine shop. They're very likely to have a full set and can measure the bore for you. With the actual bore size...

Questions for the Pritchett bullet shooters/casters

I shoot a number of minie designs and had one mold cut by Steve. It's a slightly modified Enfield pistol minie designed to fit a 50cal rifle like is found in most summer camps. Yup, Steve's molds aren't cheap, but you certainly get what you pay for. It's one of the best molds I own.

    Solved the percussion cap issue.

Keep us posted. Your tooling looks much more refined than the other cap makers. Any possibility of one that fits 7/8x14 on a standard reloading press?
