My first Enfield or military style long Gun

Guys.... I HAVE ONE AND ITS NOT STAINLESS

My first Enfield or military style long Gun

Well here's what they're capable of if you take time for load development- This was a 4 shot group with the 4th being a flyer when the nipple broke. There was a run of musket nipples with improper heat treating and they tend to break off right at the base of the cone. This is a well known...

    Yup. More metric system silliness

My first Enfield or military style long Gun

I shoot one in competition and don't worry so much about it staying "pristine". With the right load, it's a good rifle.

    Macon Conversion M1842

For more info on a "Macon" contact John Holland Chair of the Small Arms Committee aka SAC. There are several types and unless you want a "defarb" job, this is an easy conversion. The types break down pretty much along lengths of the barrel with some bordering on carbine length. The "Macon"...

    Fixed sights point of impact

If you're happy with the accuracy, I'd be more inclined to shoot the gun enough to where the slight changes won't matter. In short, practice, practice and practice some more

    Macon Conversion M1842

I shoot a "Macon" in N-SSA competition. They're not hard to do. The trick is cutting the barrel square. Middle band goes away. Shorten the stock and ramrod. Reassemble, be happy.

    Advice for N-SSA carbine

Of those listed, the Maynard is probably the most inherently accurate BUT I really, really don't like the ergonomics. It's like shooting a Red Ryder while a Smith or Sharps feels more like an actual gun. It is probably easier to get a Maynard to shoot accurately than the others you've mentioned...

Are the slow twists of the Springfield and Enfield rifle musket not suitable for minié balls?

There's one other thing to consider, bedding of the barrel to the stock. While every PH I've handled was good in that regard, this should still be checked. To determine a correctly bedded barrel- remove all bands, screws, etc that connect or hold the barrel in the stock. Then lay the barrel in...

    Question on sight in heidth

    Amazon find

So far, I've used them down through 50cal and the only thing I have smaller in caliber is an 1858 Remington revolver. It "may" fit in a 45cal but at this moment I wouldn't swear to it.

Wife got me an early Anniversary gift.

Check your bore size before getting a mold. Most of the Zolis I've seen took a .580 minie to shoot well. Get the powder charge, size and lube right and most Zolis shoot rather well.

Requesting measurements on 1809 Potsdam Musket

That would be a great question for a North South Skirmish Association member who has one. They're legal for Smoothbore class there.

    Amazon find

Thought I'd share this on the forum. This is a small, twist on, LED that can be used as an inexpensive bore light for 50cal and up. With a bit of filing, it might fit down a 45cal. I wouldn't just drop it down the bore since that's how my last one died prematurely. Just hold the barrel at a low...

Need help picking a first rifle

A couple comments here- Traditions is a decent, entry level arm and will be fine to start with. Don't get caught up in the "more powder" mania. You're much better served by learning how to shoot the rifle accurately. You also should make the acquaintance of a local black powder club. And since...
