    Rate twist

Odds are it is a Renegade, with a 1/48 twist with a shallow groove. This design was OK for patched ball or conicals that Thompson was pushing. I hunt with a bunch of guys, and the like the PA conicals a lot for the TC rifles. TC did make a replacement barrel in 1/60 from the custom shop. I...

    Flintlocks aren't accurate.....

My first shots with my new Kibler SMR in 45 used 440 ball and 0.015 patch. They grouped, but not same hole at 27 yards. Pretty easy to load. Today I tried 445 ball and 0.015 patch. First hole not touching, other 4 shots touching. Used 70 grain Goex 3F. They were kinda tough to go down the...

Kibler quick ship on the way!

I ordered my quick ship on Monday afternoon, and it was in my hands Wednesday.

    POLISHING THE PRIMING PAN

I did mine manually with sandpaper. Started with 220, then 440, the 1200. I had those grits in the drawer, so that is what I used. It was pretty easy, and if your finger gets tired, do another session the next day. I polist all my pans, and it makes cleaning so easy. In my opinion time well...

Whoops, I softened a kibler frizzen, how do I repair

Lesson learned by me. I was leery of heating the frizzen, but I thought the temperature was not sufficient to soften the steel. Well 35 dollars later I can pass on that tip to not heat the frizzen. Hopefully I receive the frizzen soon, the rifle is finished, and still unfired.

Whoops, I softened a kibler frizzen, how do I repair

So I bought a Kibler SMR kit. I fire blued the small parts with a propane torch, then dunked them is motor oil. I cleaned them with brake cleaner to remove the oil. They look wonderful, but I also did the frizzen. Before I did the heat blueing, it sparked well. Now it does not spark. I...

SOLD Pedersoli Jaeger Flintlock Target Rifle Reduced price

Since it is a match rifle, I thought I would get the lock tuned before using it. I sent the lock to Brad Emig, since he is one of the better lock tuners in the US. Brad replaced the **** for better geometry, and did a full tune. That is shown in the pictures as the 275.00 bill. All original...

    Sights for Kibler

I think I will make a blank to fit in the wide dovetail. Then I will rout out a rectangle to press in a 3/8 dovetail adjustable sight. Then I will have my neighbor weld the sight to the blank from the bottom. I'll dress that flat, and hopefully slide that into place. At least that is what...

    Sights for Kibler

I bought an in the white SMR. The provided sights are too small for my vision, so I wanted to pop in a Marbles adjustable sight and a fiber optic on the front (for hunting). Anyway the dovetails are not standard. Any sights available to fit?

    Kibler’s “In the white” service

Barrel took a while to get out the file marks. It cleaned up nice with 400 w/d. Other hardware was in about same condition. I used 400 then 1200 on the trigger guard and small hardware. I guess the lock is bead blasted.

    Kibler’s “In the white” service

I wanted a dull finish, and so far it is dull. I'll sand/buff tomorrow, and add another coat. I don't know how many coats, I guess 3-4. Minwax says wait a day between coats. So I guess I can shoot it Monday or Tuesday.

    Kibler’s “In the white” service

Well I am a bit sick, but trying to make progress. I guess I have 4 hours into it maybe. That does not count drying time and prepping/clean up the area. Unfortunately my Formbys tung oil went bad and gelled in the can. So I spent the morning finding a substitute. I settled on Min Wax Tung...

    Kibler’s “In the white” service

It came in one day through USPS. I would say it is excellent. Wood is 99%, I guess it needs the grain raised and cleaned up, but really no sanding. Fit with metal parts is excellent. Barrel is filed, but has lots of swirl. I think that would be good if it were to be aged. I will wet sand it...

    Kibler’s “In the white” service

I ordered a "in the white" 45 SMR yesterday. I talked to the nice lady, and it seemed I just need a couple sheets of sand paper, and finish goop. I ordered Jax black for barrel, aquafortis for maple stock, and a range rod. I have Formbys tung oil, and may need a alcohol dye depending on the...

    .45 Kibler on the way

I don't know from experience, but it seems people are snobby on BLO, and Truoil lacks durability. Anyway that is what is on youtube when doing research. I'm sure they work, but for a few bucks Ill be using Formbys Tung oil. There is a good video on tung oil, and it reviews the different...
