    Wet Weather Hunting

I hunted in the wet snow yesterday, and around noon tried to ignite that pan while pointing at some deer. Click, click, click. I kept the pan closed all day because the lock was pretty snowy. Anyway the pan was filled with water, and so was the charge. I pulled the ball, and scraped out the...

PA Flintlock season December 27, 2021

It wet snowed over an inch while I was pushing deer. On the last drive I took a "shot" at a string of deer at 50 yards. Click no bang. I was soaked, and so was my pan. I was hoping it was sealed, but it was mud. On the last drive the guy next to me flattened a nice sized coyote. So I had a...

    Rebore /swamp weight savings?

I tried a search and looked back a few pages, but I could not find numbers for weight with relationship to diameter. So I think it would be nice if someone could provide numbers like weight per inch going from 54 to 58, or 50 to 54, etc. In that same line of weight savings, does anyone swamp a...

Stuck ball in a Thompson Center Hawken flint

I think CO2 unloader is a good tool to have. I think places like Dunhams, Grice, and other gunshops should have them here in PA. I know my local gunshop pulls stuck balls for a small fee as another option. So you may want to call around. Looks like rain on Monday here, hope you have better...

    Is this an improved chamber

Pedersoli got back to me. They said to send it to Lee Shaver, and if he says it is defective, they will pick up the expense. I imagine I'm responsible for shipping, and really Ill have to think about it. After Christmas Ill contact Lee and see what he thinks before I ship it. The whole...

    Is this an improved chamber

I did send the picture, and the original Pedersoli contact said it was not drilled all the way. He then asked gunsmith how to resolve the issue, and gunsmith said it was OK. So I sent a reply and said look at it again, and if they will not do anything, then they should let me know so I can...

    Is this an improved chamber

It is 54 caliber. I emailed Pedersoli, and they initially thought it was an issue. Now they say their gunsmith says that this metal that blocks 1/2 the vent is normal. So I asked them to look at it again before I get out a dremil bit. I am a little miffed that this rifle was 2000 bucks, and I...

PA Flintlock season December 27, 2021

Good luck to my fellow PA hunters this season. I'll be in 4D and 5G areas. Lucky to hunt with a couple crews of hunters.

    Is this an improved chamber

Again I sent Pedersoli customer service the pictures, but being Christmas week, I imagine my response will be slow. Anyway I went to the classifieds and found another model Pedersoli, and the bushing is in the exact same position. The ad also had the flash hole positioned appropriately with...

    Is this an improved chamber

I appreciate the input. It looks low to me, but I did see similar pictures over in the for sale section of other pedersolis. So I don't know, but I did send Pedersoli customer service and email with a couple pictures. Being Christmas week I don't expect much for a couple weeks. Kinda...

    Is this an improved chamber

It works fine, and it would be easy to take out that hump of metal. Hump does act as a stop for the plug, but it seemed odd. It is new, but sat for a year. This was the first time I pulled the liner after shooting it twice this week. I was wondering if other Pedersoli's were like this? The...

    Is this an improved chamber

This is a picture of a Pedersoli chamber. I thought it would narrow down to 30 caliber or so, but it surprised me that the 30 caliber chamber is not centered in the flash hole. To me it looks like it is not fully machined. So how do I know, but I am sure you experts will know if this is the...

    Colerain or Rice........?

Rice is the best barrel I ever owned. Super polished smooth.

    Black Powder fouling in 54

I would scrub out the barrel with flitz or some other compound. Polished barrels shoot the best, and clean the best. One of my all time favorite barrels was a Rice. It was like a mirror. Easy to load, easy to clean. I put a barely damp patch between loads, and I can shoot all day.

    Looking for my first flintlock...Pedersoli?

I bought a new Target Jaeger. It is my second one. Both had super strong main springs and the **** geometry was off. Sparks landed forward of the pan. First lock was sent back to dixie, and I marked the parts. They did nothing on 2 attenps, so I returned it. I just sent in the new lock to...

    What sight

Lyman is a good choice. Sometimes you have to shave the stock on the side to get a good fit.

All-day hunt: What & how do you carry your gear?

I have a Smith and Wessson shoulder bag. It had sections to keep things organized, and important to me it is easy to access. I try to carry as little as possible, but it still adds up. It is very very nice to have it organized and in one place.

    What sight

I think it is worth drilling to get a good sight picture.
