Your best deal acquiring a muzzleloader, either trade or purchase

I like going into pawn shops in the Fort Bragg area. About a year ago, I spotted what looked like a replica 1861 Springfield rifle-musket hanging on the wall. I asked the pawnbroker if I could look at it. He had it tagged as a "repro" Civil War musket for $800. I looked at the stamps on the...

    Who made this Hawken?

abnben, When you get it, you can also check with the current Hawken Shop up in Oak Harbor in Washington State, that took over the operation when Art sold them the business assets. They might have the records from the '70's & early '80's. This a neat mystery!

Just purchased a Thompson Center muzzle loader

Centurion, Thompson/Center never made a Renegade in .45 caliber, only .50 & .54 caliber. The T/C Hawken was available in .45, & .50 caliber, in a 15/16" barrel, ATF, & .54 caliber in a 1" barrel, ATF. "ATF" is "Across The Flats". Both the Cherokee and the Seneca were available in .45 caliber...

    Who made this Hawken?

Plmeek, if the top flat is marked as stated, the only outfit that I can think of to have that inscription would have been Art Ressel's Hawken Shop, which closed in the early '80's. You would know the dates for his shop's opening and closing. I can't think of any other custom gunmaker that would...
