Hawkens Peep Sights
I had the opposite issue, put a Lyman 57 on my T/C Hawken, and bought the Lyman 17AUG wich is .584" high, but was too tall, so replaced it with Lyman 17AHB wich is .404" high, and it worked marvelously.- JDBraddy

Ok, I'm not a machinist, bud have a flat / ball micrometers, an did my best to measure the actual barrell. It measures 0.940" flat to flat. Flat to top of lands = .225" × 2 = .450" Flat to bottom of grooves = .213" × 2 = .426" So.... .940 - .450 = .490" make it .49cal .940 - .426 = .514"...- JDBraddy

Probably not, I'm new to this, trying to get an understanding, so farr, I understand the compressed cotton fibers of the patch become the seal, but it's pressure from the ball pushing them down into the recesses of the rifling grooves and compressing them against the barrel walls.- JDBraddy

Well, the 0.490 ball and thin patch material would by math, have a .001" gap around the patched ball in the bottom of the grooves, but am sure as the rifling lands compress the patched ball, there must be some flow of the lead into the area of the grooves, but how much, I don't know how to...- JDBraddy

Is Midwest Reloads legitimate?
Sorry, Midwest Reloads. Just checked back on their website, and they had CCI-BR4 bench rest primers for $85/1000. Haven't seen them available for that price in 6-8 years. My "too good to be true" red flags are all going off. Going to look elsewhere.- JDBraddy

What makes a good patch knife?
I use a pair of EMT style bandage scissors kept in the removable tray of my loading box. I just put the strip over the muzzle, thumb start the ball, then lift up the long end of the strip, and snip it off just above the muzzle with the scissors.
